Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy decided to give C Buster Posey (ankle) the day off Sunday, May 13, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, because his reconstructed left ankle was "just a little cranky." C Hector Sanchez started behind the plate in place of Posey. "It's not bad, but it's to the point he needs a day," Bochy said. "I think this is the best thing in the long run."

San Francisco Giants Cs Buster Posey and Hector Sanchez shined in a win Saturday, May 5, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Posey made the start at first base with 1B Brandon Belt sitting against a lefty. Posey went 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI, his 11th of the season. Sanchez had a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI in four at-bats.

That might be the defensive setup Saturday, May 5, when the team faces the Milwaukee Brewers and southpaw SP Randy Wolf.

San Francisco Giants C Hector Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader Monday, April 23, against the New York Mets. Manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez is earning more of a role, and C Buster Posey might see more time at first base to get Sanchez into the lineup.

San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito has a personal catcher, and it will be C Hector Sanchez. The two have worked together in both of Zito's outings, both quality starts. "I'm really comfortable with him," Zito said. "I thought he mixed it up real well. He has a great feel back there. I don't think he gets enough credit as a catcher. He's not scared to go out there and call a pitch that may not be a normal pitch to throw in a situation. If things get under pressure out there, he's just always mellow and relaxed. He has a lot of poise at that position for his age."

San Francisco Giants 1Bs Brandon Belt and Brett Pill have both made the team out of spring training, along with OG Gregor Blanco. The others filling out the roster are INFs Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss, C Hector Sanchez and Ps Clay Hensley and Dan Otero. C Eli Whiteside was optioned to minor league camp along with INF Joaquin Arias.

San Francisco Giants C Hector Sanchez (groin) went 2-for-2 in Cactus League play Wednesday, March 21, to raise his spring average to .480. He appeared to tweak his groin in the game, but was checked by the training staff and remained in the game.
