New England Patriots rookie QB Ryan Mallett will be able to sit buried on the depth chart and be afforded time to learn the system. QB Tom Brady is firmly entrenched as the starter, and Brian Hoyer has shown promise as his backup. The Patriots also have Jonathan Crompton, who was a fifth-round selection in 2010, on the roster.

Hoyer is entering the final year of his contract, so if he plays well during the preseason the Patriots could look to shop him to another team if there is interest around the NFL.

Updating a previous item, KFFL has learned University of Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton measured in at his Pro Day with a height of 6-foot-3 1/4, 222 pounds. His arm length was 31 3/4 inches and his hands measured 9 3/4 inches long. He ran 10 yards in 1.71 and 1.72 seconds, 20 yards in 2.72 and 2.82 seconds and the 40-yard dash twice in 4.85 seconds. He also measured a 32-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-11 broad jump.
