Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen remains the team's closer for now, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. Wilhelmsen has done well in his first two save chances.
Fantasy Tip: Wilhelmsen should obviously be owned in all leagues now. Carson Smith, who was closing before, is still worth owning in deeper leagues because of his solid peripherals, and there remains a chance that he could see some save chances here and there down the stretch.

Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen will pitch in a closing situation if the team has the lead Monday, Aug. 24, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.
Fantasy Tip: Those chasing the category in seasonal leagues could grab Wilhelmsen in the hopes he can land a tally in the save column Monday. But it is also a clear indication of who is up next behind closer Carson Smith, so Wilhelmsen could have a few more opportunities to convert saves before the end of the season.

Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen earned his third save of the season Sunday, Aug. 23, against the Chicago White Sox.
Fantasy Tip: With Carson Smith slumping, it looks like Wilhelmsen could see some save chances. Don't give up on Smith just yet, but Wilhelmsen could be worth adding if you are hunting for saves.

Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen earned his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers Thursday, July 23.
Fantasy Tip: The game went into extra innings, forcing Wihelmsen to close things out after closer Carson Smith pitched earlier in the game. Wihelmsen owns an unimpressive 4.45 ERA and 1.76 WHIP, so don't expect his save chances to come around very often.

Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney has had a couple of bad outings of late, including a blown save and loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, April 14, but manager Lloyd McClendon plans to ride out the storm with Rodney. Last year, Rodney blew just three saves in 51 attempts, but he also allowed at least one runner in 47 of 69 outings, including 34 of his 51 save chances. If McClendon chooses to go in another direction, RPs Danny Farquhar and Tom Wilhelmsen (on the disabled list) have closing experience, and RP Carson Smith has closer's stuff.
Fantasy Tip: Rodney owners should be a bit worried by his early-season struggles, especially at age 38. Rodney likely has somewhat of a long leash because of his 2014 season in Seattle, but saves poachers should be looking at Yoervis Medina and Farquhar in case Rodney continues to stumble. Smith is an intriguing bullpen arm, but he might be too far down the pecking order to matter.

The Seattle Mariners have won their arbitration case against RP Tom Wilhelmsen. He will make $1.4 million during the 2015 season instead of the $2.2 million he had requested.
Fantasy Tip: Seattle considered turning Wilhelmsen into a starter last season but it appears he will remain in the bullpen for the time being. As it stands right now, he only possesses value in deep AL-only leagues.

Seattle Mariners RP Charlie Furbush likely will have a roster spot to open the year, as manager Lloyd McClendon wants two left-handed relievers. The other could be one of RPs Lucas Luetge, Rafael Perez or David Rollins. RPs Yoervis Medina, Danny Farquhar, Tom Wilhelmsen, Dominic Leone and Carson Smith will likely battle for the other four bullpen slots outside of RP Fernando Rodney. Ps Mark Lowe and Erasmo Ramirez are also options.

Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen appears to be the first player from the organization headed for an arbitration hearing since 2003. Wilhelmsen is seeking $2.2 million, and the team has countered with $1.4 million.
