Fri, 14 Jun 2013 23:54:50 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Oliver Perez recorded his first major league save Friday, June 14. Fantasy Tip: Three out of the four batters he faced were right-handed, including two out of three due up when he took the mound. That might mean trusts him to get at least a piece of this committee setup with Tom Wilhelmsen being kept from save spots. If you can pick up Perez with no strings attached, go for it; he's had a career revival in the bullpen and isn't the same wild thing he used to be as a starter. However, don't assume he'll be the only one to record a closure in the future. They still have Carter Capps, among others, to use.
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 18:26:39 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen will not close for at least the next two or three games. The team wants to see him work in non-save situations, working on better location for his pitches. Manager Eric Wedge said Friday, June 14, that the team will mix and match save opportunities, with no specific pitchers mentioned. Fantasy Tip: Don't drop Wilhelmsen anywhere yet. Eric Wedge seemingly is aiming to get him back into the role; the goal of having the righty work on his pitches says this looks temporary. However, Carter Capps has closer-like skills, and if Wilhelmsen stumbles, Capps could take over. He's the first one you should pick up. Of course, it's stated to be a mix-and-match situation, so other relievers, such as Yoervis Medina and Charlie Furbush (for lefty situations) could be used and net AL-only managers some points, as well. If this problem lingers, maybe Stephen Pryor (lat) will have a say later in the year.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:45:36 -0700 Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Wednesday, April 17, that RP Carter Capps will be the setup man to RP Tom Wilhelmsen, with RP Oliver Perez likely the late-inning guy when the team is ahead. Fantasy Tip: Wilhelmsen is the clear-cut closer in Seattle, and the skipper might mix and match with Capps and Perez as setup men late in games when they are ahead. Wilhelmsen is a must-have in all AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats, while Capps and Perez are only worth a look in deeper AL rotisserie play for help in the ERA and WHIP categories.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 08:35:39 -0800 The Seattle Mariners signed C Jesus Montero, P Stephen Pryor, P Erasmo Ramirez and RP Tom Wilhelmsen to one-year deals.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 18:42:07 -0800 The Seattle Mariners must have all of the players on their 40-man roster signed or renewed by March 11. The only unsigned players remaining are Ps Stephen Pryor, Erasmo Ramirez and Tom Wilhelmsen, and C Jesus Montero.
Sat, 11 Aug 2012 10:05:34 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen is expected to rejoin the club Saturday, Aug. 11, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He had been in Seattle for the birth of his daughter Friday, Aug. 10.
Mon, 30 Jul 2012 22:29:21 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen (personal) was unavailable Monday, July 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays due to the birth of a child. RP Lucas Luetge secured his first save of the season in Wilhelmsen's absence.
Wed, 25 Jul 2012 13:25:46 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen has begun to throw a changeup to give himself three pitches to use during outings. "I'm going to keep throwing it and wait until I can throw that for a strike whenever I want. I want something else [to throw] to lefties. That's what we're working with right now," Wilhelmsen said.
Wed, 27 Jun 2012 14:05:55 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Brandon League's inconsistency has kept him from regaining the closer role this year. "He's been a little bit inconsistent," manager Eric Wedge said. "Last night he wasn't at his best. There's times when we've seen him really good, too. Just need more consistency out of him, we need to know what we're going to be getting when we call for him." Wedge wants to see more breaking pitches earlier in the count from League, and he wants League to have more confidence in his slider. RP Tom Wilhelmsen has closed out all six of his chances and hasn't allowed a run in his last 15 2/3 frames over 13 outings.
Sun, 17 Jun 2012 11:41:34 -0700 Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen picked up his fourth save of the season against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, June 16. He struck out one batter in one perfect inning.
