The Boston Red Sox optioned Ps Anthony Ranaudo and Alex Wilson, IF Garin Cecchini and OFs Bryce Brentz and Alex Hassan to Triple-A Pawtucket. The team also reassigned Ps Matt Barnes, Miguel Celestino, Noe Ramirez and Henry Owens, C Blake Swihart and IF Heiker Meneses and Travis Shaw to minor league camp.

Boston Red Sox SP Anthony Ranaudo retired all 13 hitters he faced against the Double-A squad from the Minnesota Twins in 4 1/3 innings Thursday, March 28. He was hitting the mid 90s with his fastball, and he even touched 98 mph. Ranaudo injured his groin and it basically ruined his entire minor league season last year. He is committed to sticking with a five-day routine and keeping all of the parts of his delivery in sync this year.

Red Sox | Anthony Ranaudo shut down

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox SP Anthony Ranaudo (groin) has been shut down after suffering a right groin injury during his start in the Puerto Rican Winter League Wednesday, Nov. 28. A Red Sox official said the groin injury was not as serious as the one that sidelined him back in April but the team did not want to take any chances. Ranaudo appeared in four games this winter, posting a 6.75 ERA over 9 1/3 innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox SP Anthony Ranaudo is likely to open the 2012 season with Double-A Portland, according to general manager Ben Cherington. The move is surprising considering Ranaudo spent just half of the 2011 season in high Class A.

Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox are interested in New York Mets OF Carlos Beltran, but are not willing to give up top-tier prospects in order to acquire him. The Red Sox have more pressing needs, too, most notably their pitching. Their interest in Beltran has also been tempered by the emergence of OF Josh Reddick. The Mets have been heavily scouting the BoSox's minor league affiliates. The Mets would likely be interested in OFs Reddick and Ryan Kalish, SS Jose Iglesias, Ps Anthony Ranaudo and Felix Doubront and 3B Will Middlebrooks.
