The Washington Nationals assigned INFs Carlos Rivero, Jarrett Hoffpauir and Anthony Rendon and Ps Matt Purke, Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Rafael Martin, OFs Xavier Paul and Corey Brown and C Sandy Leon to minor league camp Monday, March 12. Rendon and Purke were sent to Single-A Potomac, and Rivero will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

Washington Nationals Ps Chad Durbin, Jeff Fulchino, Rafael Martin, Yunesky Maya, Atahualpa Severino and Craig Stammen all threw side sessions Tuesday, Feb. 21. Manager Davey Johnson limited their pitch selection to fastball and changeups on Day One.

ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure Jr. reports the Washington Nationals purchased the contract of RP Rafael Martin from his Mexican League team Saltillo. Martin signed a deal worth $450,000.
