Twins | Miguel Sano likely to DH

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 08:48:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano is likely to serve mainly as the designated hitter with 3B Trevor Plouffe already serving as the team's everyday third baseman. Sano was hitting .274 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 66 games with Class AA Chattanooga this year before his call-up. He combined to hit 35 home runs in 123 games in the minors in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Sano ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has plenty of raw power to make a big fantasy impact in all leagues in the second half of the season, even though he'll likely have plenty of swings and misses. If his expected debut Thursday he has a nice matchup against Kansas City Royals starter Chris Young. Consider him an acceptable and likely popular value pick on FantasyScore.

Twins | Miguel Sano finally healthy

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 11:04:16 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano has bounced back to All-Star form after missing all of 2014 due to Tommy John surgery. Sano has 13 home runs and 41 RBI in the first half of the season in the minors, and he was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI in the Southern League All-Star Game Tuesday, June 23. "Last year, I got that injury, but I've put it behind me. So now I try to work and do everything like I did two years ago," Sano said. "I want to be the same player like I was before. I have to work hard over time."

Fantasy Tip: Sano, the No. 10 overall prospect in 2015 per MLB.com, has the raw power to make an immediate impact for fantasy owners at the major league level whenever he comes up. That could come later this summer or when rosters expand in September. He should be firmly on the radar of those in dynasty leagues already, and it might be time to stash him away in AL-only leagues.

Twins | Miguel Sano tearing up minors

Sun, 17 May 2015 15:21:33 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano was named the team's Minor League Player of the Week last week. He hit .379 (11-for-29) with three home runs, eight runs batted in and four doubles in eight games.

Fantasy Tip: Ordinarily this wouldn't be news, but Sano is one of the Twins' biggest prospects and after a slower start it looks like he's warming up dramatically. He could be a candidate for callup after June or whenever he would escape "Super Two" arbitration status, so keep an eye on him.

Twins | Miguel Sano with slow start

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 15:57:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano is hitting just .170 with three homers and eight RBI in 47 at-bats at Double-A Chattanooga.

Fantasy Tip: Sano and his fellow stud prospect teammate Byron Buxton have gotten off to slow starts and will need to turn it on to force the team's hand in calling them up before the All-Star break.

Twins | Miguel Sano ahead of schedule?

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 15:06:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) has progressed well from his 2014 Tommy John surgery, according to director of minor league operations Brad Steil. "You can see that he's a little bit rusty," Steil said, "but maybe a little farther ahead than maybe you would expect after being out for so long."

Fantasy Tip: Sano projects as a high-end power hitter, however he is expected to spend a significant amount of time in the minors this season. He is a late-round stash candidate in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but in the majority of formats, Sano is just a name to watch. He is worth adding in all formats if he forces a recall with a huge start in the minors, and it is possible given his potential.

Twins | Miguel Sano reassigned

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 13:37:54 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano was reassigned to minor league camp on Sunday, March 15.

Fantasy Tip: If you can draft Sano in your league, do it. The odds are he will be up sooner rather than later, perhaps as early as midseason or a little later if his bat tears it up in the minors. Sano is the No. 2 prospect in the organization behind Byron Buxton and is one of the top prospects in all of MLB.

Twins | Miguel Sano makes triumphant return

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 18:18:24 -0800

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) returned to game action Wednesday, March 4, against the University of Minnesota. After several months of rehab following Tommy John surgery his elbow is feeling fine. "It's exciting," Sano said. "I feel pretty good. I feel healthy. Nothing has been bothering me. I've been throwing 100 percent every time."

Fantasy Tip: Sano is expected to start the season with Double-A Chattanooga as long as Trevor Plouffe can remain healthy. However, he might get a chance to play in the majors later this season, so he isn't a bad stash option in AL-only yearly formats, in addition to being a must-have in long-term keeper formats.

Twins | Miguel Sano on track for callup?

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 13:37:49 -0800

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano may be on track for a callup later this season, according to general manager Terry Ryan. Ryan did say later that he wasn't sure if a callup was realistic for 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Sano spent last year out due to elbow surgery, but he will only be 22 years old in May and he remains one of the top MLB prospects and a top Twins prospect. Depending on whether he is healthy and has a good minor league season, he may get that callup. Keep Sano in mind as a flyer at the end of some drafts.
