Kirk Nieuwenhuis Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Kirk Nieuwenhuis MLB and fantasy baseball news
Thu, 24 May 2012 09:30:02 -0700 New York Mets 1B Ike Davis could still be sent to the minors, and manager Terry Collins isn't ruling out using OF Lucas Duda or 2B Daniel Murphy at first as a replacement. Duda has been taking grounders at first. OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Mike Baxter could serve as the corner outfielders against righties if Duda is moved to first base. INFs Jordany Valdespin, Zach Lutz or Josh Satin could be recalled if Davis is demoted.
Wed, 16 May 2012 11:44:07 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Jason Bay (rib) will not lose his starting job in left field when he returns from the disabled list. "Absolutely," Collins said. "He didn't come here to be an extra player." However, Collins said it'll be another 10 days or two weeks before Bay is back. OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is hitting .294 with two home runs and 12 RBIs, could theoretically platoon with Bay or he could be sent down to Triple-A Buffalo.
Tue, 15 May 2012 09:30:27 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Jason Bay (rib) will "probably" return to his starting left field duties when he comes back from the disabled list, but Collins wants to get OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis significant playing time, too.
Wed, 09 May 2012 14:55:10 -0700 New York Mets OFs Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis are both sitting with a lefty starting against them Wednesday, May 9. INF Vinny Rottino and Scott Hairston are starting in their place.
Sat, 05 May 2012 10:14:28 -0700 New York Mets OF Lucas Duda is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 5, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. OF Andres Torres will bat leadoff and play center field, with OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis playing right field and batting seventh. C Mike Nickeas will catch and bat eighth.
Mon, 30 Apr 2012 16:08:52 -0700 New York Mets OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis stays in the leadoff spot Monday, April 30, with OF Andres Torres back from the disabled list. Torres will bat seventh initially until he receives more at-bats. Manager Terry Collins said OF Scott Hairston will start Tuesday, May 1.
Sun, 29 Apr 2012 23:37:20 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Sunday, April 29, that he might have second thoughts on moving OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis to left field from center when OF Andres Torres (calf) returns from the 15-day disabled list. Nieuwenhuis might have changed his manager's mind when he robbed Colorado Rockies INF Jonathan Herrera of an extra-base hit to left-center in the fifth inning. "Well, I'm going to talk to Andres, but right now I am (going to move Nieuwenhuis). I mean, (Andres has) been playing center all the time. And I know Kirk has also," Collins said. "But we've got to mix and match our outfield and do it with what I think may be the best lineup."
Sun, 29 Apr 2012 10:14:48 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis will become the everyday left fielder once OF Andres Torres (calf) is activated from the disabled list Monday, April 30, against the Houston Astros. Torres will lead off and play center field but the manager will be conservative with his playing time as he returns from a strained left calf. Nieuwenhuis has never played left field before and began taking fly balls there Saturday, April 28.
Thu, 26 Apr 2012 13:46:11 -0700 New York Mets OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to help defeat the Miami Marlins Thursday, April 26. The team was 0-for-16 with two walks with the bases loaded before his hit. He went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a strikeout.
Tue, 24 Apr 2012 10:58:33 -0700 New York Mets INF Jordany Valdespin could see time in center field with OF Jason Bay (rib) on the disabled list, which would move OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Lucas Duda to the corner spots. However, Nieuwenhuis has never played left field. Valdespin will also likely be needed in the infield.
