Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) confirmed Wednesday, May 16, that he'll be out for the rest of the year, and he'll have surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in two or three weeks. Ramos expects to be ready next spring training.

The Washington Nationals placed C Sandy Leon (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle Tuesday, May 15, and recalled C Carlos Maldonado from the minors in a corresponding move. C Wilson Ramos (knee) was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Maldonado.

The Washington Nationals have placed C Wilson Ramos (knee) on the 15-day disabled list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. In a corresponding move, the team recalled C Sandy Leon from Double-A Harrisburg.

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said C Wilson Ramos (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament Saturday, May 12, and will miss most if not all of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With Ramos missing at least a majority of the season with the injury, Jesus Flores likely will see most of the playing time at catcher. Owners that need a catcher could look to pick up Flores. Sandy Leon could also see playing time because of Ramos’ injury.

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals sent C Wilson Ramos (knee) for an MRI Saturday, May 12. The extent of his right knee injury is not yet known, but the team already made plans to summon a catch from Triple-A. "Losing Willy is a big, big blow," manager Davey Johnson said. "I don't know how bad it is. I have (a) bad feeling he tore something in there and it's going to be a while."

Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) left the game Saturday, May 12, against the Cincinnati Reds due to a non-contact knee injury. He was carried off the field by trainers, and he was unable to put any weight on the right knee. C Jesus Flores entered the game in Ramos' absence.

Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos may be regressing in terms of his defense behind the plate this year. "He was a 'plus' receiver last year," one scout said. "He isn't this year. It's disappointing. He needs to flip that switch back." Ramos allowed three passed balls last year and 32 wild pitches. This year, he's already allowed one passed ball and eight wild pitches past him.
