Green Bay Packers OT Marshall Newhouse plans to work hard in the offseason to improve and try to win the starting left tackle position in 2012. "The goal is just to improve and that's what I'm going to be doing this offseason," Newhouse said. "I'm going to use my time wisely and not get caught up in all that other stuff that's out of my control." Newhouse allowed a team-high 10 1/2 sacks in 2011.

"I don't think we're as locked in" on the offensive line," McCarthy said. He added that Clifton will be given "every opportunity" to start, but that OT Marshall Newhouse won't be forgotten.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday, Dec. 21, that his makeshift offensive line faces a big challenge in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears. The Packers are expected to use OT Marshall Newhouse at left tackle, OG Evan Dietrich-Smith at left guard, C Scott Wells at center, OG Josh Sitton at left guard and OT T.J. Lang at left tackle. It appears OL Ray Dominguez and OT Herb Taylor will be the only two healthy backups.

Green Bay Packers OT Chad Clifton (hamstring) was targeting a return for the Week 13 game against the New York Giants, but he might be further behind scheduled than anticipated. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday, Nov. 25, that Clifton is "not as close as I thought he was a couple weeks ago." OT Marshall Newhouse will continue to start until Clifton is ready.
