Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said CB Walter Thurmond will receive the opportunity to compete with CB Antoine Winfield for the nickel back job during training camp. Carroll said Thurmond will also compete with WR Golden Tate for the punt returner job.

Seattle Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond had three tackles, including one for a loss, and held Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald to only one catch for two yards in Week 14. Fitzgerald was thrown to 11 times in the contest. It was Thurmond's first start of the season, playing in CB Brandon Browner's absence. "It felt like right before I got injured last year," Thurmond said. "I felt real comfortable. It was just football out there today. I really felt back into the groove of things."

Seattle Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant (back) was evaluated Monday, Dec. 20, after leaving the Week 15 game against the Atlanta Falcons with back spasms, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. Head coach Pete Carroll said that the injury is unrelated to the disk injury which kept Trufant out for the first six games in 2009. Carroll said that CB Walter Thurmond would start in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Trufant cannot play.
