Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy's jury trial to appeal a judge's guilty verdict has been set for November 17. Hardy's attorney, Chris Fialko, doesn't expect the trial to be heard until 2015. If the trial goes on as scheduled, it would take place on the Monday of the team's bye week. The Panthers do not plan on disciplining Hardy until the legal process is completed.

Panthers | Greg Hardy punishment could wait

Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy could avoid immediate punishment from the NFL after being found guilty on charges of communicating threats and assaulting a female because he filed for a second trial in Superior Court in front of a jury. The NFL could choose to suspend Hardy for as many as four games based on recent disciplinary actions. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said the NFL would review Hardy's legal situation at the "appropriate time." The league usually doesn't punish first-time offenders until their legal cases have run their course. However, the Panthers could take action against Hardy before the NFL's decision.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy's second trial won't be until after the 2014 season, so if the NFL waits, they're unlikely to suspend him this season. However, the team could choose to discipline him before then. Stay tuned.

Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy was found guilty Tuesday, July 15, of assaulting of assaulting a female and communicating threats. Mecklenburg County Judge Rebecca Thorn-Tin sentenced Hardy to 18 months' probation. A 60-day jail sentence was suspended. Hardy's attorney Chris Fialko said he'll appeal and Hardy has asked for a jury trial in superior court.
