The Carolina Panthers used the franchise tag on DE Greg Hardy, and so far there has been no indication that either side is interested in a trade. Hardy likes the Panthers, and the team likes him. There were no new developments in the contract situation with the Carolina Panthers and DE Greg Hardy. The team has two weeks to decide whether to use the franchise tag, which would buy the team another year to negotiate with Hardy. Although the Carolina Panthers are $16 million under the salary cap, the team could still let free-agent DE Greg Hardy walk away to another team. Charlotte Observer reporter Joseph Person speculates DE Charles Johnson, who carries a $16.2 million cap hit for 2014, could stay with the club and create less flexibility to keep Hardy around.
