Banks is taking part in workouts 10 pounds heavier than last season. "I called him in early and I told him that he was going to have to help us at the wide receiver position as well if he wanted to make this football team," Shanahan said. "And he accepted the challenge and came in in excellent shape, and it's really positive what he's done." Banks was a standout return man last season.

Banks' agent said Wednesday, Feb. 16, that the knife nicked the left lung of his client, and efforts to inflate the lung have delayed his departure from the hospital. "He still has a chest tube inserted and it will remain until the wound heals and the lung remains inflated," his agent said. "We are hopeful that the tube will be removed Friday."
