Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta said he is close to getting back to full strength after a hip injury in 2013. Pitta will be able to participate in the team's full offseason program that starts next month. "The big thing for me right now is just continue to strengthen my hip and my leg and all that," Pitta said. "Typically, you don't regain that four months after surgery, and so that's something that I continue to work on, and I've been training and trying to get that to 100 percent, which I'm close."

The Baltimore Ravens re-signed TE Dennis Pitta to a five-year contract extension worth $32 million Friday, Feb. 28.
Fantasy Tip: Pitta should still be one of Joe Flacco's favorite targets, assuming he can stay healthy. Having a full offseason without worrying about the contract will help as well. Pitta should be one of the top tight ends in football in 2014. He is more of a midrange TE1, but he is more valuable in PPR leagues.

The Baltimore Ravens are in talks with impending free-agent TE Dennis Pitta but are "far apart" on the numbers, according to sources. Pitta is a prime candidate for the franchise tag unless the two sides can work something out by March 3. Pitta could file a grievance if he receives the tag to be designated as a wide receiver franchise number of $11.5 million instead of the tight end tag of $6.709 million.

The Baltimore Ravens' evaluation of whether to use the franchise tag on free-agent TE Dennis Pitta is complicated by the uncertainty of exactly how much it would cost. It's uncertain if Pitta would fall under the franchise tag number for a tight end or a wide receiver, which is a difference of nearly $5 million. Pitta ran 79.7 percent of his routes last year out of the slot, and that was the highest rate among qualifying tight ends.
