Baltimore Orioles SP Zach Britton could make the Opening Day roster as a reliever if he does not win the competition for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation. With Baltimore Orioles SP's Ubaldo Jimenez, Chris Tillman, Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez ticketed for the first four rotation spots, the battle for the fifth slot is expected to be fierce. The Baltimore Orioles agreed on a deal with free-agent SP Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians) Monday, Feb. 17. It's believed that it's a four-year deal worth around $48 million. The deal is pending a physical.
Fantasy Tip: The addition of Jimenez will likely push Zach Britton out of the picture this spring. Kevin Gausman could still be a candidate for the fifth and final spot if the club believes Bud Norris is better suited for a relief role. Jimenez made some positive strides in 2013 with the Tribe, but a move to Camden Yards should leave you hesitant that he'll improve further.

SPs Zach Britton, Kevin Gausman and Brian Matusz will likely battle for the fifth starter job, and maybe more, if SPs Wei-Yin Chen, Miguel Gonzalez and Bud Norris falter. SP Steven Johnson is also considered to be in the mix.

Baltimore Orioles SP Brian Matusz will be in competition to earn a starting rotation spot this spring, according to manager Buck Showalter. Matusz was 2-1 with a 3.53 ERA and held lefties to a .168 average in relief last season. He has a 5.51 ERA in his career as a starter. SPs Chris Tillman, Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez appear to have locked down spots in the rotation, and SP Bud Norris will also likely be a starter. However, the O's have considered the idea of using Norris as their closer, too. Matusz will likely compete with SPs Zach Britton, Steven Johnson, T.J. McFarland and Kevin Gausman.
