Dominican P Rafael DePaula has admitted to using a false name and lying about his age by one year, according to sources familiar with the case and confirmed by Sandy Alderson, Major League Baseball's consultant in charge of reforming the league's Dominican operations, Baseball America's Ben Badler reports. DePaula had presented himself as Rafael DePaula Figueroa with an April 1, 1992 date of birth; he is now 19-year-old Jose Rafael DePaula born March 24, 1991.

Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports the Seattle Mariners are considered the favorites to land Dominican P Rafael DePaula, according to ESPN's Jorge Arangure. DePaula has also identified the New York Yankees as frontrunners for his services. He reportedly throws in the low- to mid-90s mph range and could command a $1.5 million or more signing bonus.
