Marlins | Dee Gordon has leg injury

Fri, 08 May 2015 16:18:58 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Dee Gordon (leg) is out of the lineup with a leg injury Friday, May 8, but it's not believed to be serious. OF Christian Yelich is leading off and 2B Donovan Solano is starting at second base.

Fantasy Tip: An injury is about the only thing that can slow Gordon down right now. He's hitting an impressive .437 (52-for-119) with 12 RBI and 12 stolen bases at the top of the Miami lineup. Solano ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be an afterthought at FantasyScore this evening, especially with the Fish playing late on the west coast.

Marlins | Dee Gordon gets day off

Sun, 03 May 2015 07:54:25 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Dee Gordon will sit out Sunday, May 3, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Marlins 2B Donovan Solano will start at second base and hit seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Solano ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just 13 plate appearances so far this season as Gordon's play has made it difficult to allow him to take rest days. Solano isn't a viable FantasyScore option.

Marlins | Don Kelly suffers finger fracture

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 14:05:40 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Don Kelly suffered a finger fracture early in the team's game Sunday, April 12, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He left the game and was replaced by 2B Donovan Solano.

Fantasy Tip: Kelly ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) was a low-cost option at third, but this injury could sideline him for a bit of time. Look for other options at this level like Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) or even Solano ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) himself.

Marlins | Four competing for two bench spots

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 00:00:13 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Jordany Valdespin, 3B Don Kelly, 2B Donovan Solano and SS Reid Brignac are in contention for the final two bench spots.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy value here depends on how much playing time these bench players get and whether the starters get hurt. In NL-only leagues it may be worth snapping up the bench winners as handcuff picks for the starters, and in FantasyScore or daily leagues it's worth checking players out if they are in the lineup.

Marlins | Fish could use internal options at second base

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 12:20:42 -0800

The Miami Marlins are watching the second base market but are prepared to begin the season with Enrique Hernandez or Donovan Solano manning the position. "It's not something where there are numerous options out there ready and available that we feel are significant upgrades over what we have," president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. "It's something we continue to monitor. I wouldn't say it is at the forefront of our goals."

Marlins | Ed Lucas to work at SS

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 16:51:02 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Ed Lucas will get most of the starts at shortstop while SS Adeiny Hechavarria (triceps) is on the 15-day disabled list. INF Donovan Solano could also get one or two starts at the position.

Marlins | Christian Yelich to DL, top prospects coming up

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 11:45:27 -0700

The Miami Marlins placed OF Christian Yelich (back) on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain Monday, June 16, and optioned 2B Donovan Solano to Triple-A New Orleans. Also, SP Andrew Heaney and Anthony DeSclafani, OF Jake Marisnick and INF Justin Bour have been recalled from the minors. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (concussion) was moved to the 15-day DL.

Fantasy Tip: With Yelich sidelined, the Fish have decided to call up two of the their top prospects in Andrew Heaney and Jake Marisnick. Heaney should be expected to have a starting rotation spot with Randy Wolf being cut. Add Heaney immediately in all formats. Marisnick will likely fill in in center in place of Yelich. Marisnick has above average hitting skills across the board, including raw power and plus speed. Marisnick should be owned in NL-only and deep mixed formats, but keep in mind that his stay could be short.

Marlins | Rafael Furcal starting

Fri, 13 Jun 2014 12:07:56 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Rafael Furcal is leading off and starting at second base Friday, June 13, in his first game back from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Furcal, given his age and injury history, probably will mix in at second base with Donovan Solano. Furcal is a shell of his former self, so don't expect much. He's probably only an NL-only option.

Marlins | Donovan Solano starting again

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 15:31:47 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Donovan Solano is making his third straight start. Manager Mike Redmond likes the solid defense that Solano provides, and 2B Derek Dietrich is "a little bit out of his comfort zone after being hit in the face in spring training."

Marlins | Ed Lucas has fractured hand

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 13:48:33 -0700

Miami Marlins 3B Ed Lucas' X-rays showed a non-displaced fracture in his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: The Fish will recall Donovan Solano to replace Lucas on the roster as the utility infielder.
