Pittsburgh Steelers LBs Vince Williams and Sean Spence continue to play ahead of rookie LB Ryan Shazier, who played for the first time in Week 15 since suffering a high ankle sprain in November. DE Daniel McCullers even played more snaps (six) than Shazier (four) against the Atlanta Falcons. Also, DE Stephen Tuitt has clearly replaced DE Cam Thomas in the starting lineup.

Pittsburgh Steelers DL Cam Thomas is getting work at nose tackle and five-technique positions in offseason workouts. Thomas played almost exclusively as a 3-4 nose tackle with the San Diego Chargers, but the Steelers believe he is athletic and powerful enough to play the five technique (outside shoulder of the tackle) and the three technique (outside shoulder of the guard) in sub packages.

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Wednesday, Oct. 3, that NT Antonio Garay has been absent because others are playing well, and there isn't much room in the scheme. "Aubrayo Franklin, Cam Thomas, all of those five defensive linemen are playing awfully well," Turner said. "The nature of the game right now, the way the games are played, the type of personnel teams are using, it's hard to dress more than five defensive linemen in a 3-4 defense."
