Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham hindered in 2015

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 13:32:33 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) believes the offseason surgery he had last year on a herniated disc slowed him down. Gresham said he didn't play up to his full potential and expects a big 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Last season, Gresham's first with Arizona, was easily the worst of his career. Full health is key for Gresham, and he could reach 500 yards and a handful of touchdowns if he can stay on the field. He shouldn't be considered a TE1, though.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham contract update

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 09:30:28 -0700

Updating a previous item, Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham signed a one-year deal to return to the Cardinals Monday, March 14. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Gresham turned down contracts of up to four years and $23 million with $12 million fully guaranteed from other teams.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham had only 18 catches for 223 yards and one score for the Cardinals last year, and head coach Bruce Arians used him more as a blocker. Not much should change in 2016, so Gresham should be off your fantasy radar.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham stays with Cardinals

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 11:52:56 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham re-signed to an undisclosed deal Sunday, March 13. He is taking less money to stay with Arizona, however.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham wants to taste the postseason again, and he has a great shot of doing that with the Cardinals, hence the reason he took less money. The Cardinals would have been in dire straits, too, had Gresham left, because they are extremely thin at tight end currently. Gresham figures to be the starter again, but he didn't produce enough last season to warrant starting fantasy tight end consideration this season.

Jets | Jermaine Gresham visiting Jets

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 14:33:47 -0800

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Cardinals) visited the New York Jets Friday, March 11, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets already have several tight ends on roster, and Gresham is more of a blocking tight end, so he would be unlikely to move the fantasy needle at all. He had only 18 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown with the Arizona Cardinals in 2015.

Bears | Jermaine Gresham visiting Bears

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 13:28:17 -0800

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Cardinals) will visit the Chicago Bears in light of Bears TE Martellus Bennett being shopped.

Fantasy Tip: If Bennett is traded, the Bears will likely acquire a downgrade at tight end. Gresham did little in Arizona and hasn't been a fantasy factor since his days with the Cincinnati Bengals. He should be avoided no matter where he plays.

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (knee) injured his knee in the Week 13 game against the St. Louis Rams, head coach Bruce Arians said Sunday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham posted a 13-yard reception on his only target before departing. If he is forced to miss time it would be Darren Fells seeing more responsibilities going forward.

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham posted four catches for 62 yards in the Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Oct. 26. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) had one of his best games statistically, but had at least one drop and a bad penalty. Still, if he continues to grasp the playbook he could emerge as a useful FantasyScore option at a cut-rate price.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham won't play

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:50:53 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) will not play Thursday, Sept. 3, against the Denver Broncos as he continues to nurse a pulled hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals are having health issues with their tight ends as Troy Niklas also has a hamstring injury. Darren Fells could be the sneaky starter to begin the regular season if Gresham and Niklas keep missing time. None of them are worth drafting as your starting fantasy tight end.

Cardinals | New Cardinals must earn spots

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 11:20:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson and TE Jermaine Gresham aren't guaranteed a roster spot, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham's main competition for the starting tight end job will probably be Darren Fells and Troy Niklas. Johnson will at least back up Andre Ellington, and could also back up rookie David Johnson. Of course, as Arians inferred, both must play well enough to earn their spots on the team. Until then, they are best left on waiver wires.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham activated

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 11:00:34 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, Aug. 3. He is expected to be limited during his first few practices.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham is expected to compete for the starting tight end job during training camp and may have a good chance to win the job. Gresham has not had more than 460 yards in either of the last two seasons and is not a great fantasy option even if he wins the job.

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:26:29 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Gresham will be ready for the start of the regular season. His back gave him a lot of trouble this offseason before the Cardinals signed him. Even if Gresham is available and starts, he's not worth drafting as your starter at tight end.

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) has drawn interest from the Chicago Bears, who have supposedly talked about signing the tight end.

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 05:23:15 -0700

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham meets with Arizona

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 09:22:08 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (back) met with the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, July 21, but the two sides have not agreed to a deal at this point. Gresham underwent back surgery earlier this offseason, and it is not known if the Cardinals' doctors were comfortable with his health. Gresham may decide to meet with other teams before making a decision.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham could wait to see if a starting tight end suffers an injury before signing with a team. He probably will not be more than a No. 2 tight end for fantasy owners this season.

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Cardinals) will visit the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, July 21.

Saints | Jermaine Gresham has offer from NO

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 15:15:14 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) was offered a contract by the New Orleans Saints after visiting in June. He has other visits planned over the next two weeks and is expected to decide on a team before training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints are looking for a replacement for Jimmy Graham, and while Gresham is nowhere near the weapon Graham is, he would still warrant consideration as a backup tight end if Drew Brees becomes his quarterback.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham to visit Arizona

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 08:38:52 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham will visit the Arizona Cardinals at some point during the week of Monday, July 20, according to a source apprised of his plans. Gresham plans to meet with additional teams and to find a new home by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham hasn't surpassed 500 receiving yards since the 2012 season, he has never had more than five touchdowns in a season, and he's not much of a fantasy option regardless of where he signs.

Bengals | Jermaine Gresham not an option for Cincy

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 09:19:44 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) likely will not re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham may have to wait until an injury during training camp before signing with a team. Gresham probably will not be a starter this season and will not have a lot of fantasy value.

Packers | Green Bay looking at tight end market?

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 05:19:20 -0700

The Green Bay Packers could sign a free-agent tight end before training camp opens Thursday, July 30. Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) is considered a candidate.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham would enter into the mix and compete for targets and playing time with Andrew Quarless and Richard Rodgers. Quarless has some legal issues, and Rodgers is inexperienced. Despite lining up in a high-powered offense, whoever ends up seeing the majority of snaps will be low on the pecking order for targets. At this point, Rodgers is a low-end No. 2 tight end for deep leagues after a nice finish to 2014, and he is the only option on the fantasy radar.

Saints | Jermaine Gresham good fit to Saints' HC

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 14:54:50 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) would make a good fit in the New Orleans Saints' offense, according to head coach Sean Payton. Payton said he thought Gresham's visit with New Orleans went well Wednesday, June 3. Gresham (back) is recovering from offseason surgery on a herniated disc.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints are in need of more depth at tight end after trading Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks, so signing Gresham would seem to make sense. If Gresham does sign, he still won't be a starting fantasy tight end.

Saints | Jermaine Gresham visited NO

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 17:30:43 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham visited the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, June 3, according to sources. No deal is done yet.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham caught 62 passes for 460 yards and five touchdowns as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014. The Saints have a need at the tight end position with Jimmy Graham now in Seattle, so if Gresham is able to land a contract in New Orleans, he'll instantly factor back into the fantasy picture as a top-20 tight end.

Cardinals | Jermaine Gresham a possibility for AZ?

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:11:12 -0700

Former Cincinnati Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) could be targeted by the Arizona Cardinals if he is medically cleared, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals are in need of a tight end with the retirement of TE John Carlson. Gresham had back surgery in March, so it's important that he is medically cleared for football activities first. If Arizona does acquire Gresham or another tight end, they would compete with TE Troy Niklas for the starting job.

NFL | Jermaine Gresham has herniated disc

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 16:49:23 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (back) has been diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back, according to a source. He will undergo surgery Thursday, March 19.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham was a candidate to join the Raiders, but that's unlikely to happen now. Gresham could find it difficult to find a taker now that he'll be having back surgery. He shouldn't be on anyone's radar for the 2015 fantasy football season.

NFL | Jermaine Gresham could undergo surgery

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 12:42:48 -0700

Former Cincinnati Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (back) may have surgery Thursday, March 19, to repair a back injury. Gresham will meet with a doctor Wednesday, March 18. He will be ready for the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham has been linked to the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns so far this offseason. The back issues seem to be keeping teams away. Gresham has TE2 potential if he can stay healthy and depending on who signs him.

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 11:47:07 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) had contract talks with the Oakland Raiders, but those talks appear to be dead at this point, according to sources.

Raiders | Jermaine Gresham visiting

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 13:29:43 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) is expected to visit with the Oakland Raiders Tuesday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how Gresham might fit in in Oakland after posting 62 catches for 460 yards and five touchdowns in 2014 with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raiders still have Mychal Rivera, who became one of the team's best receiving targets last year. Gresham would likely be a frustrating weekly fantasy football play in Oakland, making him nothing more than a midrange backup tight end.

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 12:34:25 -0700

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) will be pursued by the Cleveland Browns if Gresham does not sign with the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham's value would be fairly limited on either team due to subpar quarterbacking. He should be considered no more than a backup fantasy tight end in 2015.

Raiders | Raiders looking at Jermaine Gresham

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 20:46:37 -0800

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham (Bengals) is drawing interest from the Oakland Raiders, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham hasn't shown much explosiveness in recent years, but he could have some value as a red-zone target if he signs with the Raiders. Still, he would only be worth a look in fantasy leagues that require two tight ends or as a bye-week fill-in.
