Packers | C.J. Spiller visiting Green Bay

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 12:28:07 -0700

Free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Saints) is visiting the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, Sept. 20, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller would still be behind Eddie Lacy and James Starks if he were to sign with the Packers. Keep an eye on him in deep PPR leagues, but he can remain on waivers otherwise.

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 09:10:07 -0700

Free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Saints) is not receiving interest from the Washington Redskins, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller should be able to find a job at some point this season but likely will have limited fantasy value.

NFL | C.J. Spiller may have to wait

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 07:17:20 -0700

Free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Saints) may have to wait to sign with a team because there aren't many running back spots open. Teams have openings for special teams. Spiller's salary for 2016 is being paid by the New Orleans Saints, which means he's likely to make the minimum with a new team.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller can still be a PPR asset in the right system. Keep tabs on him as the season progresses.

Saints | C.J. Spiller released

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 14:27:24 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller was released Tuesday, Sept. 13. He is fully healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller appeared to be in line for a third-down role in New Orleans but was supplanted by Travaris Cadet. Cadet should be picked up in PPR leagues for those who need running back depth.

Saints | C.J. Spiller a healthy scratch in Week 1

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 11:06:25 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller was a healthy scratch in Week 1, according to head coach Sean Payton, who also stated RB Travaris Cadet was going to have a bigger role on offense and rookie Daniel Lasco was going to contribute more on special teams.

Fantasy Tip: The hope Spiller owners had following the Saints' encouraging use of him in the third preseason game appears to have been for naught. Tim Hightower operated as Mark Ingram's direct backup like he did last season, while Cadet had four touches - including three catches for 14 yards and a score - in what was expected to be Spiller's role. With Cadet and Lasco almost certainly locked into their roles, it is quite likely Spiller will be a healthy scratch most of the season and could be cut in the offseason.

Saints | C.J. Spiller inactive

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:40:53 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller has been declared inactive for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: Tim Hightower will serve as the backup running back for the Saints in Week 1, but Mark Ingram should receive most of the snaps at the position. Ingram is the only Saints running back that has fantasy value and should be considered a No. 1 or No. 2 back in all leagues.

Saints | C.J. Spiller not popping in preseason

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 19:53:09 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller hasn't had a lot of flash plays in the preseason, and he also fumbled in the fourth quarter of the preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller hasn't come close to the impact he had when he was a standout at Clemson. Sure, early in his career in Buffalo he had a few notable games, but he has settled into a reserve role in the NFL and he is only worth rostering in fantasy leagues as a depth player at this point until he proves otherwise.

Saints | C.J. Spiller's reps limited

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 09:41:48 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller had his repetitions reduced in practice Friday, July 29, which head coach Sean Payton said they will do with several veterans in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller doesn't figure to run the ball much, but they'll use him in the passing game. He's an RB4 option in PPR leagues.

Saints | New Orleans backfield taking shape

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:45:13 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is the lead running back for the Saints, while RB Tim Hightower appears to be the backup, according to Larry Holder of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. RB C.J. Spiller holds the No. 3 spot.

Fantasy Tip: Hightower proved his worth later on last season in New Orleans when Ingram was sidelined. Ingram is still an RB1 when healthy, though. Spiller is a mid-round option in PPR leagues, while Hightower is a late-round handcuff consideration for Ingram in standard formats.
