Mariners | James Paxton shaky in rehab start

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:43:22 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) felt healthy during his rehab start for Class AAA Tacoma Sunday, Aug. 23, but he was pulled from the game in the first inning after throwing 36 pitches. He'll make his next rehab start Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will likely need at least several more rehab starts before the M's feel comfortable putting him back in their rotation. But he has enough time to make at least a handful of starts in September, and he could be a useful addition to a deep mixed pitching staff. He'll be a little more risky on FantasyScore, especially in his first start back.

Mariners | James Paxton set for Sunday rehab start

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:04:26 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) felt good after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday, Aug. 21, and he expects to rehab for Class AAA Tacoma Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Mariners really have no reason to rush Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) back to the rotation with their season pretty much in the books. However, he could make a handful of starts in the season's final month. Keep him on your watch list in AL-only leagues.

Mariners | James Paxton to throw again Friday

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 09:51:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) will throw a light bullpen session Friday, Aug. 21, and then he could go to Class AAA Tacoma to start his rehab assignment Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is likely to need two or three rehab starts before returning to the rotation, so he won't be back until at least September. That'll leave him maybe a handful of starts for Seattle, meaning his fantasy value will be minimal for the rest of the season. It'll be tough to rely on him for anything of substance on FantasyScore.

Mariners | James Paxton could return next month

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 10:55:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) threw 45 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, Aug. 14, and is scheduled to throw a two- or three-inning simulated game Tuesday, Aug. 18. If all goes well, he will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Tacoma.

Fantasy Tip: According to manager Lloyd McClendon, Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) would likely need two or three rehab starts before he is ready to resume pitching in the majors. In a best-case scenario, he would be able to return to action in early September. Paxton should be stashed in AL-only and deep mixed leagues but is a matchup play in FantasyScore.

Mariners | James Paxton likely done

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 08:32:39 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is doubtful to make another start this season, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. Paxton threw a bullpen session Sunday, Aug. 9, at about 80% and felt free and easy. The team prefers that he pitches in the Arizona Fall League instead of before the regular season ends.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton can still be stashed in case they change course in the coming weeks.

Mariners | James Paxton inching closer to return

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 15:28:23 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) no longer has his strained middle finger taped and should be able to throw off a mound soon. He does not have a bullpen session scheduled yet, though.

Fantasy Tip: While Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has upside, he has just 27 career starts on his resume, so don't expect him to be a savior down the stretch. He should be stashed in all AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but in the majority of formats, Paxton is a matchup play, including at FantasyScore. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery.

Mariners | James Paxton out another month

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 13:11:07 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is likely at least a month from returning from his finger tendon injury.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has upside, but at the same time, he only has 27 career starts on his resume, so don't expect him to be a serious difference maker in the second half. He should be stashed in all AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. Just note, he is returning to a potentially crowded pitching rotation. In the majority of formats, Paxton is a matchup play, including at FantasyScore. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery.

Mariners | James Paxton throwing Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:27:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is playing catch at 60 feet Tuesday, June 30. However, manager Lloyd McClendon said it's a slow process for Paxton, and the left-hander will "be out for a while."

Fantasy Tip: Even though Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is out until at least early August, continue stashing him in the majority of fantasy leagues. Mike Montgomery ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has pitched well and earned a spot in the starting rotation moving forward and is worth trying out in most leagues until Paxton returns.

Mariners | James Paxton almost pain-free

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:34:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) said his strained middle finger is almost pain-free, and he hopes to resume playing catch Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) owners, but he still may not return to the rotation until sometime in August. Stash him in a DL slot wherever you can. The injury is giving Mike Montgomery ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) more long-term value in fantasy leagues, and after his 10-strikeout performance last night, he may be useful in shallow mixed leagues as a spot starter and on FantasyScore when starting at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field.

Mariners | James Paxton likely out until August

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 08:22:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is unlikely to return before August, but he is expected to begin throwing in the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Keep Paxton stashed on your DL in as many leagues as possible. Mike Montgomery ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) threw a shutout with 10 K's last night and has some extended rope in the rotation. He's a matchup play on FantasyScore.
