Mariners | James Paxton throwing Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:27:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is playing catch at 60 feet Tuesday, June 30. However, manager Lloyd McClendon said it's a slow process for Paxton, and the left-hander will "be out for a while."

Fantasy Tip: Even though Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is out until at least early August, continue stashing him in the majority of fantasy leagues. Mike Montgomery ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has pitched well and earned a spot in the starting rotation moving forward and is worth trying out in most leagues until Paxton returns.

Mariners | James Paxton almost pain-free

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:34:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) said his strained middle finger is almost pain-free, and he hopes to resume playing catch Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) owners, but he still may not return to the rotation until sometime in August. Stash him in a DL slot wherever you can. The injury is giving Mike Montgomery ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) more long-term value in fantasy leagues, and after his 10-strikeout performance last night, he may be useful in shallow mixed leagues as a spot starter and on FantasyScore when starting at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field.

Mariners | James Paxton likely out until August

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 08:22:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is unlikely to return before August, but he is expected to begin throwing in the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Keep Paxton stashed on your DL in as many leagues as possible. Mike Montgomery ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) threw a shutout with 10 K's last night and has some extended rope in the rotation. He's a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Mariners | James Paxton not throwing

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 16:08:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) has still not been cleared to resume throwing.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was sporting a 3.70 ERA in 10 starts before being injured, and it doesn't look like he'll come off the DL anytime soon. If you don't have the room to continue stashing him in shallow mixed leagues, you can drop him. Mike Montgomery ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will continue to have short-term value in AL-only leagues with Paxton sidelined.

Mariners | James Paxton not ready to throw

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 20:38:19 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is not yet ready to resume throwing, and he has not been cleared by a doctor. He is making his way back from a strained left middle finger. He said Wednesday, June 17, that he can grip a ball, but still feels sore when trying to snap off a throw.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton is just doing conditioning work, and it sounds like it will be a while before he is able to return to the mound. FantasyScore players need not bother with him for at least a few weeks.

Mariners | James Paxton heading to DL

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:32:58 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is on the disabled list with a strained tendon in his middle finger.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is worth stashing in even shallow mixed leagues while he's on the DL. The Mariners are likely to recall someone from the minors to join the rotation in the short term with Paxton out, so stay tuned.

Mariners | James Paxton exits with finger issue

Fri, 29 May 2015 09:34:20 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) left the game Thursday, May 28, with discomfort in his middle finger on his left hand. He'll be re-evaluated Friday, May 29. "We'll find out tomorrow," Paxton said. "Right now it has pretty good movement and it already feels better than it did an hour ago. Hopefully by tomorrow it'll feel much better."

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) could be forced to miss a start, but the Friday exam will provide clarity.

Mariners | James Paxton exorcises road demons

Sat, 23 May 2015 18:56:28 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton won his first road start since Sept. 2, 2014, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings in a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, May 23. Paxton was 0-3 with a 5.30 ERA in his previous six road starts.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has won his last three starts, and he has allowed two runs or less in six straight. His upside is capped by his mediocre strikeout totals, but for the price, you could do a lot worse when looking for a sleeper at FantasyScore.

Mariners | James Paxton keeps rolling

Sun, 17 May 2015 18:54:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton allowed five hits over eight shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Boston Red Sox Sunday, May 17, running his scoreless innings streak to a career-best 20.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has allowed two earned runs or less in five straight starts, lowering his ERA to 3.59 after some rough outings to start the year. He has been a bargain at FantasyScore lately.

Mariners | James Paxton having mechanical issues?

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 16:53:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton suggested his mechanics were off and that he was "too rotational" after struggling in his second straight start Sunday, April 19. He allowed seven runs and nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings against the Texas Rangers. However, manager Lloyd McClendon refused to blame poor mechanics on Paxton's outing.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 15 innings in his two 2015 starts. You'll want to avoid him at FantasyScore until he gets things turned around.
