Mariners | James Paxton in better shape

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 10:52:51 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) has lost 20 pounds this offseason and is showing no lingering effects from his finger injury, according to trainer Rick Griffin.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton has been pegged as a breakout candidate by some, and he'll be in the SP3 range in traditional leagues.

Mariners | James Paxton throws sim game

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 18:52:58 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) throw a seven-inning simulated game Monday, Nov. 23, general manager Jerry Dipoto said. He is expected to repeat that one more time to building his innings count.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton is making his way back from a finger issue which shut him down in the final month. He should be fine well in time for spring training.

Mariners | M's have discussed Brett Gardner

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 06:09:28 -0800

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner has been discussed in trade talks with the Seattle Mariners. Mariners SP James Paxton's name has come up, but talks aren't considered to have been very far along.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner is a midrate fantasy outfielder whose base-stealing prowess has failed to live up to his career-high 49 in 2011.

Mariners | James Paxton shut down

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 15:35:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) has been shut down for the rest of the season. He will now begin preparing to pitch in the Arizona Fall League.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton won't be guaranteed a starting spot in the M's rotation next year, so he's unlikely to be drafted in shallow mixed leagues in 2016.

Mariners | James Paxton may be done for year

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 00:53:34 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (fingernail) may be finished for the 2015 season, as manager Lloyd McClendon termed it "50-50" whether Paxton would pitch again.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should be dropped in your leagues. The temptation is there to keep Paxton, but the reality is he might need a change of scenery and there may not be room for him in the rotation.

Mariners | James Paxton unlikely for Wednesday

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 15:47:22 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (fingernail) is highly unlikely to start against the Houston Astros Wednesday, Sept. 30, according to manager Llyod McClendon.

Fantasy Tip: The Mariners will likely make it a bullpen start against Houston, which isn't great for fantasy purposes. Whoever receives the starting nod for Seattle isn't worth using in any fantasy format Wednesday, including FantasyScore. Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) isn't worth holding onto in seasonal leagues, either.

Mariners | Seattle monitoring James Paxton

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 17:47:56 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (fingernail) is having his torn fingernail examined on a daily basis and may not be able to make his next scheduled start.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) may not be able to pitch until the fingernail completely heals, so owners should continue to monitor the situation. Owners should be able to find other options if Paxton misses his next start.

Mariners | James Paxton injured

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 00:33:19 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (fingernail) suffered a torn fingernail Thursday, Sept. 24, and he left his start against the Kansas City Royals. No further word was available on his condition.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has had nothing but trouble with the middle finger on his pitching hand, and it's almost to the point where the Mariners may shut him down for the rest of the year. If they do, you should do the same.

Mariners | James Paxton throws Thursday

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 18:43:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) threw a successful bullpen session Thursday, Sept. 10. If he feels fine Friday, Sept. 11, he will start against the Colorado Rockies Sunday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been sidelined since May 28, due to a strained tendon in his left middle finger. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him in his first outing following such a long layoff.

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 19:01:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) felt good playing catch Monday, Sept. 7, and is scheduled for a bullpen session Thursday, Sept. 10. If all goes well he will return to the rotation Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Give Paxton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) at least one start to prove his health in a full outing without any setbacks before trusting him again in FantasyScore.
