The San Francisco 49ers will try to sign WR Michael Crabtree and OG Mike Iupati to contract extensions before they become unrestricted free agents next offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. The team is not believed to be close to a deal with either player at this point.

San Francisco 49ers OG Mike Iupati (ankle) is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. Iupati did not need surgery on the broken ankle he suffered during the NFC Championship game. General manager Trent Baalke said Iupati is out of a walking boot and is able to walk on his own.

San Francisco 49ers OG Mike Iupati, OG Alex Boone, FB Bruce Miller and CB Chris Culliver triggered salary escalators based on playing time over the course of their careers or the 2013 season. Iupati is now scheduled to make $2.77 million, while Boone is scheduled to make $2 million. Miller and Culliver will make $1.39 million in 2014.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Tuesday, Jan. 21, that OG Mike Iupati (fibula) will not need surgery to repair his fractured fibula, but he will need a cast and should be fine in about eight weeks.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers OG Mike Iupati (fibula) suffered a fractured left fibula in the NFC Championship Game against the Seattle Seahawks, not an ankle injury as head coach Jim Harbaugh previously indicated. A league source said Monday, Jan. 20, that the injury will not require surgery.
