Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) said he expects to play in the team's Week 15 game. Bush said he is not sure how he aggravated his calf injury during pregame warmups last week.
Fantasy Tip: Bush should be in all starting lineups if he is able to play. There's a decent chance Bush will be limited, sharing touches with Joique Bell, who could remain a flex play in point-per-reception leagues, even if Bush is in the lineup.
Sun, 08 Dec 2013 17:58:54 -0800
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) aggravated his calf injury during pregame warmups in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he did not play. Because Bush's injury happened so late, the team had just two active running backs, RBs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.
Sun, 08 Dec 2013 10:03:29 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell started at running back in the team's Week 14 game.
Thu, 05 Dec 2013 10:00:39 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) did some very light individual work in practice Thursday, Dec. 5. Bush did not do any cutting on his injured calf in practice.
Fantasy Tip: While it can be seen as good that Bush was able to do anything at all, the idea that he was unable to do much and did not do any cutting on the injured calf is concerning. Joique Bell would carry the load if Bush can't go and could be a decent play.
Wed, 04 Dec 2013 08:55:20 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) sat out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Fantasy Tip: Bush's inclusion on the injury report is only notably because it's his calf and not the knee that has held him out of practices earlier this year. We don't know the extent of the injury, so keep tabs on his status the rest of the week. Joique Bell could be a decent flex play if Bush is limited at all against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sun, 24 Nov 2013 08:38:33 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles') is active for the team's Week 12 game.
Fantasy Tip: Bell probably should not be considered as more than a flex option for owners this week.
Fri, 22 Nov 2013 13:36:00 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles') fully participated in practice and is questionable for Week 12.
Thu, 21 Nov 2013 08:43:05 -0800

Wed, 20 Nov 2013 15:36:23 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles'), CB Jonte Green (illness) and S Glover Quin (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 20. DE Ziggy Ansah (ankle), CB Dwight Bentley (knee), S Louis Delmas (knee), DT Andre Fluellen (thigh), DE Israel Idonije (knee) and TE Brandon Pettigrew (knee) all were limited. T Corey Hilliard (knee) fully practiced.
Wed, 20 Nov 2013 09:54:23 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 20.
Tue, 19 Nov 2013 12:37:19 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) and S Glover Quin (ankle) are not dealing with season-ending injuries. "They're all short-term, day-to-day, week-to-week guys," head coach Jim Schwartz said. CB Chris Houston (hand) also left the Week 11 game with a hand injury but returned.
Tue, 19 Nov 2013 12:20:19 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick, who has a similar running style to RB Reggie Bush, saw more playing time in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after Bush lost his second fumble in the last three games. However, head coach Jim Schwartz refuses to say that Bush was benched in the contest. "It was just a couple of plays," Schwartz said. "We didn't have Joique Bell at that time, he had gone out of the game. Reggie had been taking a lot of reps. We wanted to take a little bit of that load off of him. It wasn't more than anything there."
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 14:51:23 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the Week 11 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fri, 08 Nov 2013 09:52:29 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush, who rushed for 139 yards in his first meeting with the Chicago Bears this year, knows that their weakness is stopping the run and is ready to exploit it again. "We feel like there is some room for us to take advantage of them in the run game. We just have to make sure we go in and play fundamentally sound," Bush said. Chicago is allowing 127.5 rushing yards per game this season, ranking them 29th in the league. They've allowed 408 rushing yards in their last two games.
Fantasy Tip: Bush and the Lions will surely attack Chicago on the ground repeatedly, and they should have a good deal of success, making Bush a very strong play this weekend. Joique Bell should see valuable touches, too, making him a consideration as a flex in deeper leagues.
Sun, 20 Oct 2013 08:46:40 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) is active for the team's Week 7 game.
Fri, 18 Oct 2013 15:08:14 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (rib) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 18, and is listed as questionable for Week 7.
Fantasy Tip: Bell was able to practice this week but is dealing with a lot of pain from his rib injury. Bell should be considered a risky flex play this week because of the injury. Bell could be a better gamble in point-per-reception leagues but would still be very risky.
Thu, 17 Oct 2013 13:45:36 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 17.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 15:01:56 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16. Bell is still dealing with pain and felt a rib "pop" in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. X-rays on his ribs came back negative. Bell wanted to test his ribs Wednesday and will try using a chest protector in practice Thursday, Oct. 17, and will likely wear it in Week 7 if he plays. If he doesn't play, RB Mikel Leshoure will likely be active and serve as the backup to RB Reggie Bush.
Fantasy Tip: Lower your expectations a bit if Bell plays through the pain. He remains more intriguing in point-per-reception affairs and as a handcuff to oft-injured Bush.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 09:10:51 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) is participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 20:01:40 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) had X-rays taken after the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns due to a rib injury. The X-rays were negative, and he is expected to be re-evaluated Monday, Oct. 14. "I played another play to see if I could go through with it and I couldn't," Bell said after the game.
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 14:38:26 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) had X-rays after the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns due to an injury to his ribs. The X-rays were negative. He said Sunday, Oct. 13, that he was still in pain in the locker room after the game.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 17:09:16 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knees) had ice packs on both of his knees following the Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers.
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 15:16:29 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 27, and is probable for Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Nothing unexpected here. Bush should be a full go this weekend against the Chicago Bears. That tempers the value of Joique Bell to a flex play in deeper leagues.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 11:43:02 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is non-committal on the status of RB Reggie Bush (knee) for the team's Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. Bush said he feels fine and would have played in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins if it were a playoff game. RB Joique Bell had 63 rushing yards and a touchdown and added four catches for 69 yards against the 'Skins. RB Theo Riddick also saw some action out of the backfield.
Fantasy Tip: Monitor Bush's status this week in practice. If he plays Sunday, he's a must-start.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 09:51:10 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) said he could have played in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins if it were a playoff game. "I feel good, man," Bush said. "Honestly, I could have played today but it was coaches and doctors that decided it was best to sit this one out. Just to not risk any further injury. If it was a playoff game, I would have been in there." Bush said he'll be 100 percent healthy and ready to go in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears.
Fantasy Tip: Be ready to get Bush back into your lineups next weekend. However, he remains a big injury risk, and Detroit could spell him more often with Bell, who had a productive day Sunday. Joique Belll should be owned in all leagues and remains a nice flex play, even with Bush playing.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 21:47:05 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell carried 20 times for 63 yards in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins, making the start with RB Reggie Bush (knee) sidelined. Bell added four catches for 69 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Bush vows to play in Week 4, but Bell should still be in line for plenty of touches. Still, if Bush is back, Bell's fantasy value is diminished. Consider him an RB3 or flex play in standard leagues of 12 or more fantasy teams, and treat him as an RB2 or flex option in leagues which reward points per reception (PPR).
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 06:37:04 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) is not expected to play in the team's Week 3 game due to the knee injury. Bush is expected to return in Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Get Joique Bell into your starting lineups for Week 3, as he will likely get most of the work out of the backfield. Theo Riddick could also see time on third downs as a pass catcher out of the backfield.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 06:19:40 -0700
The Detroit Lions may hold out RB Reggie Bush (knee) from playing in Week 3 as a precaution due to swelling. Bush is pushing to play.
Fantasy Tip: This one may go right to kickoff, keep an eye on the inactive list to see if Bush dresses, but be prepared to go with Joique Bell if he canít go.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 15:04:49 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will slide into the leading running back role if RB Reggie Bush (knee) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. Rookie RB Theo Riddick could then leapfrog RB Mikel Leshoure to be Bell's primary backup. Riddick was the third back in each of the team's first two games while Leshoure was a healthy inactive. Riddick has an advantage because he provides the team with special teams play. "We drafted Theo to come in and have some of the effect that maybe a Reggie might do," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "We were really happy with him doing those things for us in the preseason. If he were called upon, we have all the confidence in the world that he can help us." Riddick doesn't have a touch this year, but he has experience playing in the slot in college.
Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be wise to start Riddick on blind hope before knowing that Bush is ruled out. Even then, he may not see enough action to justify a starting spot. Leshoure can probably be dropped for now in favor of Riddick, though.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 13:35:40 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) returned to practice and was wearing a sleeve on his knee Friday, Sept. 20. He ran routes and caught passes and didn't appear to be favoring his left knee.
Fantasy Tip: This doesn't mean Bush is a lock to play Sunday against the Washington Redskins, but it's a good step for him. Check his practice status later in the day and monitor his progress up until Sunday morning. Regardless of whether Bush plays, Joique Bell should see increased touches and is a strong flex play this week.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 12:30:52 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) is optimistic about playing in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins and plans to return to practice Friday, Sept. 20. Head coach Jim Schwartz said whether Bush practices will have no effect on if he'll play Sunday, Sept. 22. "I think it's a lot further than I expected and it feels a lot better than I thought it was going to feel. So I'm just happy where it is right now. Today was a very positive day and we'll see what happens tomorrow," Bush said.
Fantasy Tip: Bush and the team are pretty concerned about his knee ailment. You should be, too, if you are a Bush owner. Don't be surprised if Bush is a game-time decision Sunday and doesn't wind up playing. Joique Bell, against a weak Redskins D, is a good play this weekend.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 08:42:20 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) and RB Mikel Leshoure are both inactive for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles needs to be owned in all leagues despite being inactive. He should be a valuable weapon for Matthew Stafford when he's on the field and makes for a good WR depth piece. Leshoure is a healthy inactive, which confirms that Joique Bell is the better back to own if you're handcuffing Reggie Bush.
Fri, 23 Aug 2013 13:12:56 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell had 101 yards of total offense on seven touches in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22, playing mostly in the second half. ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert clearly thinks Bell has the upper hand on the No. 2 running back job over RB Mikel Leshoure.
Fantasy Tip: Bell is a more versatile back than Leshoure, and he likely fits the Lions' dynamic offense better. Take his stat line in the second half of the preseason with a grain of salt, though. If you're targeting a handcuff to Reggie Bush, Bell looks like your guy.
Tue, 06 Aug 2013 21:54:42 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (Achilles', hamstring) said Tuesday, Aug. 6, that he didn't have burst, but it had nothing to do with his Achilles' injury from 2011. He suffered a hamstring injury toward the end of the Week 3 game last year, and it lingered with him all season. He is confident his legs are back, and he is out to prove why the team invested a second-round pick on him back in 2011. "I feel lighter and feel a little more of a burst," Leshoure said. "I don't know if that's from the weight (he's dropped five pounds and is currently at 229 pounds) or the fact it's a year under my belt and I have my legs back."
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure can be a No. 1 tailback in the NFL, but injuries have kept him off the field or limited his productivity. He is behind Reggie Bush on the depth chart, and he'll have to contend with Joique Bell for touches, but if things break a certain way, Leshoure could be a very nice sleeper for fantasy owners who are picking him with an average draft position in the 11th or 12th round.
Thu, 27 Jun 2013 12:45:25 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is expected to have a role on all four special teams units this season and could be a candidate for the kick returner job.
Fri, 21 Jun 2013 14:13:39 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell likely will see a decrease in his receptions this season because of the addition of RB Reggie Bush, but he will still have opportunities to make plays. He could push RB Mikel Leshoure for carries at some point.
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 14:10:28 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he has been impressed with how RB Joique Bell has worked hard this offseason. "He was on the practice squad for a few years, but when he got the opportunity, he made the most of it last year and he's not letting go. He's really done well and he's increased his special teams knowledge and technique and things like that. It looks like he can contribute in a lot of ways," Schwartz said.
Fri, 17 May 2013 16:00:49 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell could receive more touches at some point this season if RB Mikel Leshoure does not perform well as the complementary back to RB Reggie Bush.
Sun, 05 May 2013 09:43:47 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell may be the early favorite for the No. 3 running back job because he made plays when given the opportunity last season. Bell will have to work on his ball security if he wants to win the job.
Thu, 02 May 2013 12:39:26 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell said he has talked with special teams coach John Bonamego about the possibility of becoming the team's full-time kick returner this season. RB Theo Riddick, WR Corey Fuller and CB Darius Slay could also be candidates for the return job.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 12:49:06 -0700
Detroit Lions exclusive rights free-agent RB Joique Bell, FB Shaun Chapas, WR Kris Durham and SS Ricardo Silva have signed their one-year tender offers. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 11:07:22 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said all three of the teams running backs, Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure, and Joique Bell, will have a role in 2013. "Joique runs the ball a little bit different than Mikel, but they both run a little bit different and present different things than Reggie, and I think that combination of guys is good. People like to say running back by committee and things like that, but each guy will have a role. There will be plenty of touches on the offense for everybody."
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:59:22 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he has confidence in RB's Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell. "We have a lot of confidence in both of those guys (Bell and Leshoure)," Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. "Both of those guys are going to be good players that we continue to move forward with, and they all have unique skill sets.
Wed, 16 Jan 2013 12:50:09 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell has familiarity with new running backs coach Curtis Modkins, when Modkins was the offensive coordinator and running backs coach with the Buffalo Bills at the start of Bell's career. "That was my first year, so he taught me a lot," Bell said. "I remember calling him after the draft, after I got picked up, and I was really eager to get started. He was able to kind of calm me down and say don't worry about it. That's the kind of guy he is. He wants you to feel comfortable. You play a lot better when you're comfortable. You're kind of at home with what you're doing. He just made me feel comfortable my first year." Bell expects Modkins to use him in a similar capacity as he was in 2012.
Thu, 27 Dec 2012 18:46:58 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is expected to return kicks in Week 17 after WR Stefan Logan was removed from that role. WR Mike Thomas could return punts if Logan is not used in that role either.
Tue, 11 Dec 2012 16:06:16 -0800
Detroit Lions RBs Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell split the running load pretty evenly in their Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers. Leshoure had 14 carries and Bell carried the ball 12 times. However, Bell played more snaps (43) than Leshoure (31). Both runners were equally effective; Leshoure had effective runs on seven of his 14 tries, and Bell was efficient on six of his 12 carries, with an efficient run being a carry for four or more yards on first down, half the remaining distance on second down or picking up a first down on third or fourth down. Bell had 19 yards after contact and Leshoure gained 14. Leshoure showed he continues to be indecisive in the backfield, which hurts his momentum as he hits holes. Bell is running with more authority and is more of the total package, but his lack of top-end speed and strength makes him more of a complementary back.
Fri, 07 Dec 2012 09:35:13 -0800
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said RB Joique Bell will continue to see more touches to infuse some life into the running game. Bell has all three of the team's runs for over 20 yards this season, and he's averaging 5.7 yards per carry. RB Mikel Leshoure had 84 yards and a touchdown the first time the team played the Green Bay Packers, and they used a lot of two-deep safeties, which gave Leshoure a distinct advantage. Leshoure is averaging 3.8 yards per tote, but leads the team with seven touchdowns. "Him rattling off really the three explosive runs that we've had this year certainly gives him more opportunities I think in our offense, not just in the games," Linehan said of Bell. "I think you'll see him playing a little bit more throughout the game."
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 15:17:06 -0800
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz seemed to indicate that RB Joique Bell has earned more of a role in the offense. "Yeah. I mean, he's definitely made the most of his opportunities. We talked about that a little bit early of making the most of your opportunities. Joique is a guy that's done that. When that happens, you're rewarded with more opportunities," Schwartz said.
Thu, 22 Nov 2012 17:55:25 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell carried five times for a team-best 47 yards in Week 12 against the Houston Texans Thursday, Nov. 22. He also posted a 23-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter.
Mon, 19 Nov 2012 17:40:55 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith saw action on 19 of his team's offensive snaps in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers, as opposed to just 10 for RB Joique Bell.
