Atlanta Falcons weakside LB Sean Weatherspoon's role will expand this season under new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. "I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing all of the time," Weatherspoon said. "I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge. I think I'm ready for that, to do a little bit more and step out there and do some different things. I look forward to the challenge. I think it's going to be fun." Weatherspoon had a breakout campaign in 2011, finishing with 127 tackles, four sacks, one fumble recovery, one fumble recovery, eight passes defensed and led the team with 14 tackles for losses.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said he believes LB Sean Weatherspoon can become more of a defensive leader on the team this season to take over for LB Curtis Lofton who went to the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

Douglas, Meier and Moore were limited in practice Friday, Jan. 6, while the others practiced in full.

The Atlanta Falcons released their depth chart Tuesday, Nov. 30, heading into Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and LB Sean Weatherspoon remains the No. 1 strongside linebacker, reports D. Orlando Ledbetter, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Weatherspoon comes in with the nickel defense, and LB Stephen Nicholas is starting with the base defense.
