Chargers | Dexter McCluster to play in Week 3

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 21:35:13 -0700

San Diego Chargers RB Dexter McCluster is expected to be active for the Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He is familiar with the offense, as Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was his head coach in Tennessee. "I've pretty much got the offense down," McCluster said Wednesday, Sept. 21. "Right now, it's just repetition, being on the same page as the quarterback. I sat in with the offensive line for a short period this morning, just to build that camaraderie, see how I fit in and let them know, 'Hey, I'm serious about what I'm doing'."

Fantasy Tip: McCluster will be looking to fill the void left by Danny Woodhead, who is out for the season. He is worth grabbing for depth at the RB spot in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, especially in PPR formats.

Chargers | Dexter McCluster signs with Chargers

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 12:47:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Dexter McCluster (Titans) signed with the San Diego Chargers Tuesday, Sept. 20. WR Isaiah Burse was subsequently waived.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster reunites with Ken Whisenhunt and will ideally take over Danny Woodhead's pass-catching role out of the backfield. McCluster is worth adding in PPR leagues, but don't expect him to produce close to Woodhead's output. Melvin Gordon is still the main man in San Diego and is an RB1 going forward.

Chargers | San Diego likely to sign Dexter McCluster

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 10:40:49 -0700

Free-agent RB Dexter McCluster (Titans) is expected to sign RB Dexter McCluster shortly to fill the pass-catching role out of the backfield left behind by the season-ending ACL injury to Danny Woodhead, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster is familiar with offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt from their days together in Tennessee. While McCluster isn't quite the well-rounded runner Woodhead is and won't be nearly as active at the goal line, he should be scooped up right away in most leagues. Given his familiarity with Whisenhunt's system, he should be able to contribute immediately and could have a Theo Riddick-like (circa 2015) impact in fantasy.

Jets | Dexter McCluster works out for Jets

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 16:10:00 -0700

Free-agent RB Dexter McCluster (Titans) worked out for the New York Jets Friday, Sept. 9, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster should be able to find a job at some point this season but would receive limited playing time if he signed with the Jets and would not be an attractive fantasy option.

Titans | Dexter McCluster let go

Fri, 02 Sep 2016 12:06:48 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster was waived Friday, Sept. 2, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster has a good chance to find another job and can be a change-of-pace back for a team. He likely will receive limited touches if he signs with another team and can be avoided in all fantasy drafts.

Titans | Dexter McCluster should return

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 10:53:10 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 11, because of an excused absence but is expected to return to the team later in the day.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster is expected to have a limited role on offense and probably will be used as more of a receiver out of the backfield. Owners on most leagues can avoid him during their drafts, but he could be a waiver wire option during the season in point-per-reception leagues.

Titans | Dexter McCluster will have opportunities

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:54:02 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster thinks he'll have plenty of opportunities to make noise in the backfield even with RBs DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry ahead of him. "I think it will open up a lot more opportunities for me," said the 5-8, 170-pound McCluster. "When you have some big guys that are going to run downhill, that can cause more confusion to a lot of people. I hope (defenses) forget all about me and I can get open." McCluster has a versatile skill set and can also help on special teams returning punts.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster had 55 attempts for 247 yards and a touchdown for the Titans in 11 games last year, and he also added 31 catches for 260 yards and a TD. He probably won't see enough touches to be relevant in most traditional leagues, but he could be worth a flier as bench depth in PPR formats.

Titans | Dexter McCluster should have role

Sun, 15 May 2016 13:37:42 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster should have a role on offense in 2016 even though the team added RBs DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry this offseason, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: McCluster probably will receive a handful of touches each game and may be more involved in the passing game. McCluster could have some value in point-per-reception leagues but probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Titans | Dexter McCluster to IR

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 08:28:29 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster (wrist) was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Dec. 16. Free-agent QB Mike Kafka (Vikings) and WR Nick Harwell (Cowboys) were signed to the practice squad.

Fantasy Tip: Antonio Andrews ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) and David Cobb ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will continue to share the load. Neither are great FantasyScore options against the New England Patriots, but Andrews could be in the mix for a low-end grab.

Titans | Dexter McCluster broke wrist

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 14:19:21 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster (wrist) is out for the rest of the season after breaking his wrist in Week 14, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Antonio Andrews and David Cobb will have a bigger share of the workload in Tennessee's backfield now. Andrews is probably the more attractive option in point-per-reception formats as a flex option in deeper leagues or at FantasyScore. Cobb had just two carries in Week 14 and will be tough to rely on for the rest of his rookie season.
