Chargers | GM likes WR depth

Wed, 07 Aug 2013 11:30:15 -0700

San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said he likes the team's current wide receiver corps and indicated the team likely will not sign a wide receiver even though they lost WR Danario Alexander (knee). "It hurts a lot because Danario worked so hard, he's a good player and a good kid. We thought he had a chance to be a bona-fide playmaker this season," Telesco said. "But we feel pretty good about the position. Fortunately, that is one of the positions where we have some depth."

Wed, 07 Aug 2013 09:00:23 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown (hamstring) is likely to start opposite WR Malcom Floyd following the season-ending injury to WR Danario Alexander (knee). WRs Keenan Allen, Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal are the other receivers in the mix. Brown is not expected to play in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8, however, after just returning to practice recently after a strained hamstring sidelined him from practice.

Chargers | Danario Alexander tears ACL

Tue, 06 Aug 2013 16:16:47 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in practice Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander has so much promise, but he just cannot seem to stay on the field. It appears Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen benefit this most, as they'll battle for a starting job opposite Malcom Floyd. Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal might also see more targets, getting another chance to earn their money.

Chargers | Danario Alexander hopes to stay healthy

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 11:45:57 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander (ankle) left practice briefly Thursday, July 25, to get his ankles taped. He has been fragile during his career, but produced big results when healthy. He is hopeful of playing all 16 games this season, and he has changed his diet, conditioning and he said he is "prehabbing so I'm not rehabbing, to squash future problems.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander can be a very productive fantasy receiver, and perhaps the best downfield threat the Chargers have. However, he has had difficulty staying on the field. If he can do so, he might be a very good WR2/3 or flex fantasy option.

Chargers | Keenan Allen worked with first team

Tue, 25 Jun 2013 08:57:07 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen worked with the first-team offense on the final day of the team's minicamp WRs Danario Alexander and Eddie Royal dinged up with undisclosed injuries. Allen said he's comfortable with the playbook and the offense's terminology. "He's done a nice job buying into what we're doing," head coach Mike McCoy said. "It's a change for him. We're moving guys around, and the skill-position guys really need to know every position because you never know when Philip is going to check at the line of scrimmage. You have an idea where you're playing, but when it comes to a formation, Philip can audible something whenever he wants. ... You've got to know every position."

Fantasy Tip: It'll be tough for Allen to earn a starting role at a position that's probably the deepest on San Diego's depth chart. Alexander, Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown figure to rotate often, and the Chargers also have Royal and Robert Meachem. Barring an injury or unforeseen change, it's probably best to leave Allen for the waiver wire in redraft leagues.

Chargers | Danario Alexander's health helping early workouts

Thu, 23 May 2013 22:04:34 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander looked fluid in making back-shoulder catches in practice Monday, May 20. He claims he's at full speed, a contrast to his injured May practices last year with the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: A full offseason could help Alexander build on his massive potential, but you can't logically pay for a 16-game season from the brittle catcher. He's a WR4, if you can handle the risk.

Browns | Might pursue Danario Alexander

Wed, 10 Apr 2013 18:12:20 -0700

The Cleveland Browns are believed to be a team to possibly have interest in restricted free-agent WR Danario Alexander (Chargers).

Fantasy Tip: Alexander played for Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner last season with the San Diego Chargers, so there is a connection. If Alexander joined the Browns, he would jockey with WRs Josh Gordon and Greg Little for targets. He is a deep threat worth keeping an eye on wherever he lands.

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said defenses haven't adjusted to WR Danario Alexander. He has 33 catches for 555 yards and five touchdowns in his last six games. "He's still seeing a lot of single coverage, a lot of matchups where he's not getting the best (defensive back)," Turner said. "He's getting the third DB, and he's taking advantage of it, and I think we're taking advantage of it, and Philip (Rivers) is."

Sun, 09 Dec 2012 19:38:28 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander had seven receptions for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 14 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander has made an instant splash in San Diego and fantasy leagues. He has at least five receptions in each of his past five games, he has five touchdowns during the impressive span, and he has managed at least 74 receiving yards in each outing. Consider him a solid WR2/3 or flex play heading into Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers.

Sun, 11 Nov 2012 19:56:20 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander had five receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Norv Turner said Alexander would see more looks in the offense, and he did, including an 80-yard touchdown reception to open the score. Alexander isn't quite worth using in most fantasy leagues just yet, but he is worth stashing away in case he continues to shine.

Chargers | Danario Alexander says there is more to come

Fri, 02 Nov 2012 17:06:30 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander said he is still learning the team's playbook and working at getting on the same page as QB Philip Rivers. Rivers and Alexander worked together closely the past two weeks to build chemistry. Alexander caught three passes for a team-high 61 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9, which he said is just the beginning. Rivers was impressed with Alexander's performance. "Danario was big and he was great. He had a third down slant way down in there inside the ten, then a couple more end routes, an out route that got us going. He was good, he was comfortable. It's just amazing," Rivers said of his new weapon.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander is worth the look if you're hurting at wide receiver. Robert Meachem has been a huge disappointment thus far for the Chargers, plus he is dealing with an injury, as is WR Eddie Royal. Vincent Brown, who the team hoped would be able to return, appears to still be at least several weeks away from hitting the field if he does at all.

Rams | Danario Alexander needs to stay healthy

Tue, 07 Aug 2012 16:38:33 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Danario Alexander (hamstring) spent the first week of training camp sidelined with a hamstring injury. Alexander has had plenty of injury problems during his brief NFL career and the pulled hamstring threatens to send him to the waiver wire before the end of training camp. He was cleared to return to action Monday, Aug. 6, and spent most of the day running with second- and third-string units without seeing many passes go his direction. "He obviously has some talent. But we just have to keep him out there," head coach Jeff Fisher said. The Rams upgraded their receiver position during the offseason and competition at it is fierce during camp, so missing time is putting Alexander on the outside looking in. Fisher said Alexander hasn't fallen too far behind, but noted the key for Alexander is to stay on the field. Alexander said it felt good to be back on the field and he is going to try hard to stay healthy.
