Patriots | Brandon LaFell will dress

Sun, 21 Dec 2014 09:14:53 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) is active for the team's Week 16 game.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell may see more targets this week since Julian Edelman is not able to play. He will be facing a New York Jets defense that has had some problems stopping wide receivers this season. LaFell has a price of $5,800 on FantasyScore and could be an attractive option for owners.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell questionable

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 14:11:54 -0800

New England Patriots WRs Julian Edelman (thigh, concussion) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) were both limited in practice Friday, Dec. 19, and are questionable for Week 16 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman ($6,300) must still be cleared to play against the Jets by a doctor, but if he's in the lineup Sunday morning, he's worth a FantasyScore roster spot against a weak New York secondary. LaFell ($5,800) would certainly see a boost if Edelman didn't play, but even if both wideouts suit up, LaFell isn't a bad daily option.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell limited

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 13:58:27 -0800

New England Patriots WRs Julian Edelman (thigh, concussion) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) were both limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman ($6,300) is the one to worry about, since he'll need to go through the league's concussion protocol in order to play against the New York Jets. If he plays, though, he's a great option for FantasyScore lineups, as is LaFell ($5,800).

Patriots | Brandon LaFell limited Wednesday

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 13:25:53 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell ($5,800) should be fine to play against the New York Jets this weekend. He hasn't done much in his last two games, but Week 16 is a good chance for him to get back on track against a very shaky Jets secondary. LaFell is a good option at FantasyScore.

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 14:52:02 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 12, and is listed as questionable for Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell probably has a good chance to play even though he is questionable for the game. LaFell has a favorable matchup against the Miami Dolphins and is an attractive option on FantasyScore at $5,900.

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 15:24:33 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (thigh) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) were both limited for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman ($5,700) and LaFell ($5,900) should both be fine to play against the Miami Dolphins, and both wideouts should be acceptable plays in Week 15 for their prices.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell limited

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 15:33:41 -0800

New England Patriots WRs Julian Edelman (thigh) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) were both limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman ($5,700) and LaFell ($5,900) have both been productive recently as the Patriots are hitting their stride offensively late in the season. Both receivers should be solid plays at FantasyScore this weekend against the Miami Dolphins.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell in the lineup

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 16:04:17 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) is active for the Week 14 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell's FantasyScore salary of $6,200 (or 12.4 percent of the cap) is a bit inflated after a two-touchdown performance last week. Still, he appears to be the top wideout option for QB Tom Brady and should produce another decent stat line.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell questionable

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 15:34:35 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (thigh) and WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) both were limited in practice Friday, Dec. 5, and are questionable for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Check on their status before game time, but both receivers should be good to go. Edelman ($5,700) is a cheaper option than LaFell ($6,200), but both should be fine FantasyScore investments if they can get on the field.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell limited

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 15:24:12 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (thigh) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder) were both limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Both receivers should be fine to play against the San Diego Chargers Sunday night. Edelman ($5,700) is the cheaper option at FantasyScore than LaFell ($6,200), but both wideouts should be worth their cost, as the Chargers allow an average of 22.92 fantasy points to receivers in 2014.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell has limited practice

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 17:02:21 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was able to take part in practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell has a big game in Green Bay last weekend, and appears to be the most trusted wideout for Tom Brady, especially if Julian Edelman is dinged up. However, at $6,200 (or 12.4 percent of the cap), he is creeping up in salary. His two-touchdown performance last week actually inflated his salary a bit too much.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell having career year

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 10:41:50 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell has set season highs in catches (53), yards (712) and touchdowns (seven) through 13 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell caught two touchdown passes in the loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 13, and the matchup against the San Diego Chargers this weekend is another good one for him. LaFell continues to be a good FantasyScore option as he develops more chemistry with Tom Brady.

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 15:13:46 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell has played well this season and should be a solid part of the passing game if he is active for the game. LaFell has a price of $6,200 on FantasyScore and could be a starting receiver for owners if they are willing to pay for him.

Patriots | Limited practice for Brandon LaFell

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 15:30:00 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Expect LaFell ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) to play Sunday, and he is a solid FantasyScore option. There projects to be plenty of scoring in the game against the Green Bay Packers, which is a plus for LaFell.

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 14:48:02 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell has played well over the last month and appears to be one of the team's top receivers. He costs $6,200 on FantasyScore and may be a solid starting for owners if he plays.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell limited in practice

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 13:48:10 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell ($6,200, 12.4%) has a high price but a good matchup with the Green Bay Packers in Week 13, who have given up 14 touchdowns two wide receivers this year.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell practicing

Wed, 12 Nov 2014 10:29:03 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (illness) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 12, after missing practice Tuesday, Nov. 11, because of strep throat.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell looks like he will be able to play in Week 11 even though he is dealing with the illness. LaFell costs $5,600 on FantasyScore and could be a solid starting wide receiver for owners.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell continues ascension

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 06:39:05 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell played in 61 of the 74 offensive snaps in Week 8 Sunday, Oct. 26. He had 11 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell's rise has been swift, and his price on FantasyScore is likely to adjust to such. He is a good flex option at the right price next week against the Denver Broncos.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell the top option outside

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 15:23:27 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell played a team-high 77 out of 84 offensive snaps in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he's clearly now the top outside receiving option for the team. WR Danny Amendola (20 out of 84 snaps) wasn't used much because the Patriots didn't use many three-receiver sets.

Fantasy Tip: After a 119-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 4, LaFell disappointed with just one catch on four targets against the Bengals. However, the fact that he played the most snaps of all receivers is a big positive. It's time to start giving him a look on the waiver wire if he's out there in your league.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell shines in loss

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 20:50:41 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell had a team-high six receptions for a game-high 119 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29. It was LaFell's first TD with the Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell was one of the few bright spots in an ugly game for the Patriots. There aren't many NFL caliber wideouts on the New England roster right now, and certainly not many fantasy relevant options, but LaFell certainly looks like a decent WR3/4 or flex option going forward. He appears to have Tom Brady's confidence.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson a healthy scratch

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 16:17:01 -0700

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson was a healthy inactive for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins. WRs Kenbrell Thompkins and Brandon LaFell both had great training camps, and TE Tim Wright gives the team more options to run the ball in two-tight end sets. It means that the Patriots don't think Dobson has caught Thompkins or LaFell on the depth chart yet.

Patriots | Josh Boyce well behind others

Fri, 22 Aug 2014 22:41:55 -0700

New England Patriots WR Josh Boyce did not play an offensive snap until there was 1:26 remaining in the third quarter of the preseason game Friday, Aug. 22, against the Carolina Panthers. He is considered to be decisively behind WRs Kenbrell Thompkins, Aaron Dobson (foot), Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Brandon LaFell on the depth chart.

Patriots | No. 3 WR battle heating up

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 21:23:35 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell and Kenbrell Thompkins each posted touchdown grabs in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, Aug. 15. LaFell was targeted three times, catching two for 29 yards and the score, while Thompkins had three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown while being targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: The two are battling for the No. 3 job, although each figure to be a major part of the offense no matter how things shake down. Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola haven't exactly been the picture of health over their careers, so LaFell and Thompkins are likely to see a start of two during the season. A late-round flier on each wouldn't be a bad idea on draft day.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell could take on Aaron Hernandez role

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 12:05:11 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell could play the "Aaron Hernandez" role this year, according to a source. LaFell's former coach, Ron Rivera, said LaFell knew the tight end position in addition to all of their wide receiver positions. It helps that the Patriots aren't deep at tight end behind TE Rob Gronkowski.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell still has a lot of work to do in order to become fantasy relevant. Though, if he does end up in Hernandez's old role, he could gain more value. Monitor his status throughout training camp, but it's best not to draft him as of now.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell slowly adjusting to new offense

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 13:18:20 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell admits he is playing at half-speed as he adjusts to the Patriots codeword offensive system, after using a numbers-based system last season in Carolina. LaFell is focused on picking up the offense so he can continue to gel and build chemistry with QB Tom Brady during organized team activities, instead of waiting until training camp.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell is joining an already crowded wide receiver corps and has to learn the offense. Given New England's propensity to spread the ball around, his fantasy value is tied to an injury within the receiving corps.

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell said he chose to play with the Patriots because he wanted to play for a Hall of Fame quarterback in QB Tom Brady. "I don't think I've been putting more pressure on myself; I just think I've been getting the coverage Smitty was getting when he was out," LaFell said. Fri, 11 Oct 2013 19:58:56 -0700

Carolina Panthers WRs Brandon LaFell and Steve Smith had drops that would have been big plays or touchdowns in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: The drops have hurt the effectiveness of QB Cam Newton, who is often blamed for the struggles of the team, but he cannot catch the balls he throws. In addition, Newton's pass protection has been abysmal. Until things improve in Charlotte, Newton is best used as a QB2 in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Competition for No. 3 WR job

Tue, 20 Aug 2013 13:03:06 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards (hamstring) has impressed the coaching staff in training camp and the preseason and has been listed as the third receiver behind WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. WRs Domenik Hixon, David Gettis and Ted Ginn Jr. are battling with Edwards. Edwards spent some time dealing with a hamstring injury which kept him out of the team's second preseason game. The door has reopened for Gettis because of the ailment, and he was impressive with five catches for 82 yards in the second preseason game. It now looks like a wide open race for the No. 3 spot.

Fantasy Tip: Gettis might be the most intriguing receiver in the lot, but none of these options should be drafted.

Panthers | David Gettis in danger of losing job?

Wed, 31 Jul 2013 09:11:01 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR David Gettis has struggled with injuries in his career, and he appears to be slower than previous seasons so far during training camp. He is behind starting WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell on the depth chart, and newcomers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. and Domenik Hixon appear to be ahead of him as well.

Fantasy Tip: Gettis might be battling Armanti Edwards for the No. 5 receiver job, and Edwards is versatile because of his special teams work. The fan favorite Gettis might be soon looking for work unless he shines significantly in the coming days. Avoid him for fantasy purposes right now.

Panthers | Wide receiver notes

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 10:25:01 -0700

Carolina Panthers WRs Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell are locked in at the top two spots. Ted Ginn Jr. has stood out during minicamp, catching several deep passes from Cam Newton. Armanti Edwards looks more comfortable playing the position. Ginn and Edwards will compete with Kealoha Pilares, Joe Adams and David Gettis for roster spots and reps.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to trust Ginn finally developing into a full-fledged catcher, but there's big-play potential here in what could be a surprisingly productive passing system. Greg Olsen's presence limits the availability of secondary targets, but waiver-wire scroungers in deep leagues will watch this play out during the season.
