Phillies | Jorge Alfaro mending on the farm

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:04:35 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Jorge Alfaro (oblique) is on the 7-day disabled list at Class AA Reading, but he might be back in the lineup next week. He has been dealing with a strained right oblique. Alfaro, the team's top prospect, is hitting .500 (18-for-36) with a .750 slugging percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Alfaro might get a look at the big-league level later this season. He is worth stashing in deeper NL-only leagues later this summer, and he is a must-have in long-term keeper fantasy leagues.

Rangers | TEX close to acquiring Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:13:52 -0700

The Texas Rangers are close to acquiring SP Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are believed to be receiving minor league C Jorge Alfaro and SP Jerad Eickhoff in return.

Fantasy Tip: Despite moving to the American League, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) would receive a boost pitching for a contender. He makes a strong No. 2 fantasy starter and is a solid FantasyScore option in most games. Alfaro is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for Class AA Frisco and is considered one of the organization's top prospects. Eickhoff is 9-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) for Frisco and Class AAA Round Rock.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Rangers | Jorge Alfaro could miss season

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 10:15:05 -0700

Texas Rangers minor league C Jorge Alfaro (ankle), currently playing for Class AA Frisco, could miss the remainder of the 2015 season because of a severe ligament injury in his left ankle. He is wearing a walking boot and the organization is considering various treatment options, including surgery.

Fantasy Tip: The 22-year-old Alfaro is one of the Rangers' top prospects and had a chance to be called up to the majors later this season before getting injured. Owners in dynasty leagues and AL-only fantasy leagues will want to closely monitor his rehab.

Rangers | Could be interested in veteran catcher

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 10:21:24 -0800

The Texas Rangers could be in the market for a veteran catcher, even though general manager Jon Daniels believes C Robinson Chirinos is capable of starting at least 100 games next season. C Tomas Telis, who has performed well in winter ball, is currently slated to be the No. 2 catcher. C Jorge Alfaro is expected to be added to the 40-man roster but is unlikely to reach the majors before September 2015.
