Patriots | Gronk officially listed as questionable

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 14:23:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (groin) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 22, and officially is listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski told reporters earlier in the day that he ready to play, so the questionable tag appears to be a formality rather than something to worry about for fantasy owners. Still, it's always disconcerting to see that red plus or injury designation. Don't hesitate to use him this weekend in all fantasy formats.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski proclaims himself ready

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 11:39:17 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (groin) told reporters Friday, Sept. 22, he is ready to play Week 3 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski is a regular on the injury report and leaves his owners wondering until late in the week whether or not he is going to play at least five times per year, but the payoff with him usually makes it worth their time. Gronkowski is always a solid bet to lead all tight ends in weekly scoring almost regardless of matchup, so donít hesitate starting him again this week in fantasy.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (groin) and WR Danny Amendola (knee, concussion) were among a group of injured players who were able to practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Owners of Gronkowski and Amendola have to be encouraged by this news, as the Patriots would have likely held out both players if there was any concern about setbacks and/or their status for Week 3. For now, it appears both are on the right track to start Week 3 against the Houston Texans. Don't hesitate to start either player, so long as both make it through the week without any further issues.

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 22:29:04 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski had two catches for 33 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Sept. 7. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: There's no doubt it was a disappointing performance from Gronk, but there aren't many teams in the NFL that has someone the caliber of Eric Berry to cover him. The good news is he didn't get hurt. Better days are ahead.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski made his first appearance in a preseason game since 2012, playing 15 of the first 17 offensive snaps but failing to make a catch against the Houston Texans Saturday, Aug. 19.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski likely will sit out

Fri, 18 Aug 2017 14:48:08 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski probably will not play in the preseason game against the Houston Texans Saturday, Aug. 19, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has struggled with injuries over the last few years and probably will not play until the regular season. He is a risky option because of his injury history but is a No. 1 tight end when he is healthy.

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 13:56:20 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, TE Rob Gronkowski and WR Brandin Cooks are not expected to play in the Patriots' first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 10, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a shock to any. Playing stars simply isn't worth the risk early on in the preseason. This will have no impact on their respective fantasy values. As you were.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski using Tom Brady's trainer

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 05:47:47 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has hired QB Tom Brady's personal trainer, Alex Guerrero, and has adopted Brady's workout and diet plan. "I look at (Brady) and he turns 40 tomorrow and he runs around like he's younger than me. So it's pretty obvious right there," Gronkowski said after practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, while acknowledging his body already feels different.

Fantasy Tip: The article also suggests that the team could adjust the high-risk seam routes that Gronk and Brady have made their bread and butter. Gronk has had several back surgeries, forearm surgeries and reconstructive knee surgery at 28. The clock could be ticking on his stranglehold as the No. 1 tight end in fantasy, but this light bulb going off in him is a good sign for his longevity.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski not limited

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 09:02:08 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) has no limitations as training camp opens, according to head coach Bill Belichick.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk has the most upside at the position in fantasy, but he also carries enormous injury risk. Equip yourself with an upside pick as his backup if you make the leap.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski a full participant

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 07:23:06 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) has been a full participant in practice and hasn't missed a practice this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: That's a great sign for Gronk, but the number of injuries is piling up on his 28-year-old body. The tight end fray is starting to catch up to him, and the risk associated with taking him so high in drafts may not be worth it anymore. The team is also loaded with receivers and running backs that catch the ball. He's still an elite TE1, if not still the best at the position, but the risk is glaring.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski has no restrictions

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 10:29:29 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) is "feeling great" after several weeks on the field and in the gym. He has practiced without restriction.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski is a huge liability with as much upside in fantasy as the No. 1 tight end. He'll cost a pretty penny in what is a fairly deep but also precarious tight end class.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski looks like old self

Fri, 26 May 2017 18:46:46 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) has been a full participant in drills during voluntary workouts, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said Gronkowski has been "involved in everything" and "looks like Gronk."

Fantasy Tip: Despite the injury history, Gronkowski still deserves to be the first tight end off the board in drafts as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks. His upside is unmatched at the position.

Thu, 25 May 2017 12:12:05 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) has progressed well enough that he has been cleared to take the field for organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski's injury history is well-documented, but he remains the best at his position. It appears he's on track to be ready to play by Week 1, so he should continue to be the first tight end taken in fantasy drafts.

Patriots | Restructured deal for Rob Gronkowski

Tue, 23 May 2017 14:35:41 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski restructured his deal for 2017 and has a chance to become the highest paid tight end in the league. The deal can boost his salary from $5.25 million to $10.75 million.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski is the best tight end in the NFL, so it makes sense that he'd be the highest paid at the position. He should be the first tight end taken in fantasy drafts, but there is the injury risk as he has missed 22 games in his seven-year career.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski ready for workouts

Mon, 03 Apr 2017 07:36:29 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) said he'll be ready for offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: The injuries are starting to really pile up on Gronk, who turns 28 in May. He's one of the best players in fantasy when healthy, but you really have to back him up with an upside tight end.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski confident in Week 1 return

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 10:56:46 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) told ESPN's Cari Champion on Friday, Feb. 24, he has "no doubt" he will be ready for the start of the 2017 season.

Fantasy Tip: The 27-year-old Gronkowski is recovering from his third back surgery since 2009 and his eighth surgery overall, but he remains undaunted in his quest to dominate NFL defenses. Gronk was rarely ever completely healthy in 2016 and was limited to eight games, finishing with 25 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns. Assuming he is cleared in time to start the opener, Gronkowski should return to the top of the heap at his position and be a worthy top-20 pick in fantasy again.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski wants a long career

Sat, 04 Feb 2017 13:14:51 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski said he plans on playing as long as he can even though he has dealt with multiple injuries during his career.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has missed as least one game in each of the last five season and has played seven or fewer games in two of the last four seasons. Gronkowski probably is the No. 1 tight end when he is healthy, but he will be a risky option in fantasy drafts next season because of his injury history.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) suffered a herniated disc during the team's Week 13 game and will need to undergo surgery Friday, Dec. 2, according to a source. There is no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski likely will miss the rest of the season because of the injury. Fantasy owners will need to find other options to use in their starting lineups and can drop Gronkowski if they need the roster space. Martellus Bennett should have a bigger role in the Patriots' passing game and will be a No. 1 tight end moving forward.

Patriots | Gronk cleared to attend event

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 21:58:16 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) was unable to attend an event Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Boston Children's Hospital due to the recommendation of the team's medical staff, as he continues to recover from a back injury. He has been cleared to attend a separate event later in the week, however.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Gronk will be able to practice in full at any point this week, but being cleared for an outside event after previous restrictions sounds like a step forward. It will be a game-time decision, most likely, for the stud fantasy option who has a propensity for injury.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski suffered a back injury early in the team's Week 12 game and was not able to return, so owners should check on his status later in the week. New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, chest) left the team's Week 12 game early because of a back injury and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Gronkowski has a chance to return to the game. He entered the game with a chest injury and was a risky option for fantasy owners. Patriots | Rob Gronkowski cleared to fly

Sat, 26 Nov 2016 11:38:35 -0800

Updating a previous story, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (chest) made the trip to New York on Saturday, Nov. 26. Gronkowski was not cleared to fly last week on the team's cross-country trip to visit the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: It confirms Gronkowski is at worst a game-time decision, as was reported earlier. It also means he is trending in the right direction, so owners can feel good about the odds they'll have him back next week at the latest. Just like about any other time he sees the field, Gronkowski is an elite TE1 play if he suits up.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski 'true game-time decision'

Sat, 26 Nov 2016 09:33:23 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (chest) has "made a lot of progress" in the last 24 to 48 hours, but he is still expected to be a "true game-time decision" in Week 12 against the New York Jets, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Owners have little choice but to continue waiting for more updates, although they should plan to be without Gronkowski another week. Martellus Bennett would take over for him if sits and be a high-upside play if he does, but New England virtually ignored him in a great spot last week. Obviously, if Gronkowski is cleared to play, he needs to be started in all leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski could be a game-time decision for Week 12, so owners should keep an eye on the situation over the next few days. Gronkowski is a one of the top tight ends when he is healthy but will be a risky option if he is active. Owners can still start him if he is uniform but should lower expectations.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski likely out again

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 08:38:50 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (chest) is likely to miss his second straight game in Week 12 as the team is preparing the offense without him for the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Martellus Bennett only had one catch for 14 yards with Gronk out last week. The Jets are pretty good against the position the last five weeks as well. Bennett is still a solid TE1, but the team spreads it around so much that it's tough to bank on him.

Fri, 18 Nov 2016 14:30:51 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (chest) did not travel with the team on their flight to San Francisco.

Fantasy Tip: This all but rules out Gronk from New England's Week 11 tilt with the 49ers. It's a tough break for his fantasy owners in what should be a very juicy matchup for the Patriots offense. Gronkowski's absence will solidify Martellus Bennett as an enticing TE1 for the upcoming weekend.
