Patriots | Rob Gronkowski playing this year

Tue, 24 Apr 2018 15:32:38 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski announced Tuesday, April 24, that he will be playing in 2018, as expected.

Fantasy Tip: Not a big surprise, but there have been reports throughout the offseason that Gronk could retire. Since he is returning, he should be regarded as the No. 1 fantasy tight end, per usual.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski likely back in 2018

Sun, 22 Apr 2018 13:16:48 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski are expected to return to the team in 2018 despite their absences from voluntary workouts this month, per a source with "knowledge of the situation" according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Fantasy Tip: It's possible both men are making their displeasure of the team's decision to remove their trainer from the premises at Gillette Stadium, although neither Brady nor Gronkowski have confirmed that. The Patriots would be wise to target their successors in this week's draft, but the 40-year-old Brady has repeatedly said he hopes to play until he's 45. Gronkowski is more likely to retire sooner given how many injuries he has suffered in his career, but it still seems highly unlikely we've seen the last of him on the gridiron.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski likely to skip workouts

Sat, 21 Apr 2018 10:31:30 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski indicated that he does not plan to participate in the upcoming voluntary workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski still has not announced if he will play in 2018, but he probably will be on the field next season. He is one of the best fantasy options when he is healthy and likely will be selected in the first three rounds of all fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski still thinking retirement?

Sun, 15 Apr 2018 16:04:11 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski still is considering whether to play the upcoming 2018 season, and a team source said Gronkowski and the Patriots are keeping in touch.

Fantasy Tip: If Gronkowski plays he has to be considered a TE1, one of the best in the league. Still, the Patriots appear to be playing the cards the right way and making sure they have a backup plan.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski leaner

Mon, 09 Apr 2018 07:53:53 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is around 260 pounds, according to a source, which is about five pounds lighter than his playing weight. He's expected to re-gain the weight before camp. Gronkowski has been working with QB Tom Brady's trainer, Alex Guerrero, which stirred the pot with head coach Bill Belichick. At one point early last season, Belichick chastised Gronkowski in front of the players for working with Guerrero, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The friction with Belichick is starting to leak out, and it somewhat explains Gronk's hesitance with playing next year. His physical condition adds traction that he will be back, though. He'll be a high-end TE1 in fantasy.

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski hasn't been involved in trade talks, and the Patriots expect to keep him.

Tue, 03 Apr 2018 07:05:17 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will have teams calling about acquiring him, according to MMQB's Albert Breer.

Patriots | Chances increasing Rob Gronkowski is traded

Fri, 30 Mar 2018 08:41:09 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's odds of being traded are increasing, a source friendly with head coach Bill Belichick told the Boston Sports Journal's Greg A. Bedard. "(Belichick) imagines you gone," the source said. "The longer Gronkowski goes without saying he's all in, the chances of him being traded increases."

Fantasy Tip: Gronk hasn't played 16 games since 2011, but most seasons he doesn't have to. The number of injuries is mounting on his soon-to-be 29-year-old body. The tight end position has blossomed enough that, it really isn't a "Gronk or bust" spot anymore. He'll be a high-end TE1 regardless, but one has to wonder if the risk is worth the reward.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski still undecided

Mon, 05 Mar 2018 09:14:58 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski still has not decided if he will retire or if he will play in 2018, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should continue to monitor the situation because Gronkowski is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. He would be an early-round pick in fantasy drafts if he decides to play next season.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is expected to return for the 2018 season after pondering retirement and other opportunities, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski was already mulling future

Sat, 17 Feb 2018 18:37:43 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski had been thinking about retirement "long before" the loss in Super Bowl LII, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: This is potentially bad news for anyone hoping Gronkowski was just having an emotional response to the Super Bowl loss. His future remains up in the air at this point, but he would remain the top fantasy tight end if he does play in 2018. The uncertainty could make him a buy-low candidate in dynasty leagues.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski's retirement thoughts 'real'

Thu, 08 Feb 2018 20:53:33 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's thoughts about retirement ever since the club's loss in Super Bowl 52 on Sunday, Feb. 4, against the Philadelphia Eagles are "real," according to Albert Breer of SI.com. Gronkowski has been responsible with his finances, putting away most of his football money and living largely off his endorsement cash, and he's taken an "absolute beating" physically.

Fantasy Tip: While many would be shocked to see Gronk leave the game while still in his prime, he certainly wouldn't be the first superstar-caliber player to opt for retirement at such a golden point in his career, with Calvin Johnson and Patrick Willis being two recent examples. He has plenty of time to think about it, though, with the offseason only just getting started. The 28-year-old would remain the league's No. 1 tight end if he decides to keep playing.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski tie record

Mon, 05 Feb 2018 21:36:57 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski have now connected for 12 touchdown passes in playoff games after Brady hooked up with Gronkowski twice in Super Bowl 52 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4. That ties them up with retired QB Joe Montana and WR Jerry Rice for the most touchdowns by a quarterback-receiver duo in NFL postseason history.

Fantasy Tip: No surprise here given New England's prolific history in the playoffs. Brady has already said he'll be back in 2018 and should retain his spot at the top of the quarterback food chain. Gronkowski is in the same boat as it regards NFL tight ends going into next season.

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 20:43:10 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski said he is going to take a look at his future, following a 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. "I'm going to sit down the next couple of weeks, see where I'm at," Gronkowski said.

Fantasy Tip: The sting of a tough loss could have played a role in his comments, but it is a situation worth monitoring in the coming weeks. Gronkowski has dealt with a variety of injuries over his career, but when he's on the field, he's the top tight end in the game.

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (concussion) is hoping to be cleared from the concussion protocol Wednesday, Jan. 31. He re-iterated he will play in the Super Bowl.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk is the best tight end left in playoff pools, but Zach Ertz isn't too far behind to select at a reduced salary in DFS. Gronkowski is expected to see a lot of attention from the Philadelphia Eagles' defense, and the injury risk could make Ertz an attractive play.
