Patriots | Rob Gronkowski unlikely to play in full

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 07:33:50 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is likely to be removed from the Week 17 game early. Beat writer Mike Reiss believes the team will pull Gronkowski after the offense exhibits a rhythm against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk could play long enough to reach the end zone, but it's quite a risk to take on FantasyScore given his injury history and little incentive to play much.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski plays in all snaps

Mon, 22 Dec 2014 15:21:39 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski played in all 61 of the team's offensive snaps in Week 16 against the New York Jets, showing that he is completely healthy at season's end. TE Tim Wright played in only seven snaps in the first half compared to 25 in the second half with the team going to a faster tempo on offense.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski ($5,555) may not be the safest play at FantasyScore in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills defense. The Patriots may also have everything locked up for homefield advantage, too, so Gronk could be rested. Be careful here.

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 11:27:27 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski was on the field for all 57 offensive snaps in the team's Week 13 game. It is first time he has played every snap since he underwent surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski looks to be completely recovered from his torn ACL and has been one of the top fantasy tight ends since returning. Gronkowski should be a starting option every week no matter the matchup.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski on hot streak

Wed, 29 Oct 2014 11:44:38 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is averaging over 100 yards and one touchdown per game over the last month. QB Tom Brady has shown so much confidence in Gronkowski that he threw to a covered Gronkowski near the goal line for a touchdown in Week 8 instead of an open WR Julian Edelman. Brady has a 129.1 passer rating over the last month with Gronkowski on the field.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski looks to be fully healthy and is a great starting option in all leagues no matter the matchup. Gronkowski has a price of $7,400 on FantasyScore and is a good option if owners are willing to pay the price.

Sun, 26 Oct 2014 13:12:04 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (dehydration) left the game early Week 8 because of dehydration and did not return.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski nearly goes distance

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 16:57:38 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski played 53 of his team's 57 offensive snaps in the Week 7 game against the New York Jets Thursday, Oct. 18. It was the first time all season he has played over 90 percent of the snaps in a game.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski continues to look 100 percent, and he has re-emerged as a must-start each week like during his pre-injury days. With his history, there will always be a concern for injury, but the team doesn't seem to feel he needs training wheels any longer, and that should make fantasy owners smile.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski back to full strength?

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 11:08:11 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) is back in full force, according to QB Tom Brady. Gronkowski played limited snaps in the first four weeks while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, but he has emerged in the last few weeks. He had six catches for 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 and caught seven passes for 94 yards in Week 6. Gronkowski took some big hits and showed added strength in the game against the Buffalo Bills. "He's a great option out there," Brady said. "So if they don't cover him, he usually gets it. If they put extra guys on him then it frees everybody else up. He's tough to stop. You put a safety on him, he's got size. You put a linebacker on him, he's got speed. He's been that way since he got into the NFL."

Fantasy Tip: After the last two weeks, Gronk's price has risen at FantasyScore to $6,800 (13.6% of cap) heading into Thursday's matchup against the New York Jets. He won't be cheap anymore, but the chances are better that he will deliver solid production.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski fights through pain

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 14:26:12 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) fought through in a very physical game in Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills. He was injured in the third quarter, and assisted to the sidelines by trainers, but was able to return. He also had his forearm brace replaced during the game. He finished with seven receptions for 94 yards, and also had a touchdown negated by penalty.

Fantasy Tip: After the game, Tom Brady declared that Gronk is back. Fantasy owners are certainly glad to see that, although he might not last long if he takes the kind of beating he did in Sunday's victory.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski played 23 more snaps in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals than he had in any game all season. The takeaway is that Gronkowski finally appears to be rounding into his pre-injury form.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski off injury report

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 14:20:31 -0700

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski with bigger workload

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 15:17:20 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski played 66 of 84 offensive snaps in Week 5, which was a season high. His previous high for snaps was 42 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk caught six passes (11 targets) for his first 100-yard receiving game and added a touchdown, his fourth in five games. Now that Gronkowski is returning to full health, he should be involved more in the offense. He'll be a strong play in most weeks.

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 15:20:38 -0700

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski a full participant

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 18:06:44 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has three touchdowns in four games, but he has managed just 13 catches for 147 yards. With New England struggling on offense, he has basically become a touchdown-dependent option. Gronkowski will take up 13% of the cap ($6,500) at FantasyScore, and he could have a tough time living up to his price tag against a tough Cincinnati defense in Week 5.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski limited in practice

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 14:49:34 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Strangely, this comes after Gronkowski said he doesn't feel limited at all. Even with the limitation in practice, he should still be able to play against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. His price of $7,500 on FantasyScore could be worth the investment in a favorable matchup.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski not limited

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 05:58:57 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) said he doesn't feel limited at all and is ready for more responsibility after reduced work in his first three games. Gronkowski has likely been on a pitch count in the first halves of games to save him for the second half. He played more than 50 percent of the snaps for the first time this season in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski ($7,500; 15% of your FantasyScore cap) has a good matchup against KC this weekend and could start to resemble the fantasy force that he has been in recent years.

Patriots | Tom Brady rushed to make throws

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 13:09:00 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady didn't try to get deeper into his progressions in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders until late in the second half. There were only two times when Brady looked past his first read and wasn't under serious pressure from the Raiders' pass rush. On both of those instances, Brady completed a pass to WR Julian Edelman. Brady has been getting hit hard or pressured when looking through his progressions deeper down the field, which is why Edelman and TE Rob Gronkowski are being targeted more - they are his best and most consistent receivers.

Fantasy Tip: Are Brady's glory days behind him? That's probably the case, but he can still be productive in the right matchups. However, beyond Edelman and Gronkowski, his other receiving options will be weak flex plays until the offensive line can give Brady more time to look through all of his downfield options.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski's usage increasing

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 17:28:15 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) played a season-high 42 snaps in Week 3, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said a further increase in playing time is coming. "Rob has done the things we have asked him to do," McDaniels said. "He has been fine in terms of his assignments and his conditioning. But we just have to try to add to it as we go throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: Even while being eased back into the mix, Gronkowski has remained a major factor in the red zone. His snap count should only increase as the year goes on, boosting his reception and yardage totals and his fantasy value. Gronkowski will take up 15% of the cap at FantasyScore ($7,500) in Week 4, and with the Patriots facing a Kansas City defense that has allowed three touchdowns to tight ends in three games, he could be worth the price.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski posts TD in win

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 18:41:57 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was able to play in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders. He posted three receptions for 44 yards and the only touchdown of the game. Gronkowski was also targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk nearly had another touchdown in the back of the end zone, but it was knocked away by Charles Woodson at the last second and Gronkowski couldn't haul it in. He didn't roll up big yardage, but he obviously is a vital cog in the offense when healthy, and a must-start fantasy option when he plays.

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 15:15:32 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 19, and is listed as probable for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has not put up big numbers so far this season but has the ability to have a big game each week. Owners would have to spend $7,600 at FantasyScore for Gronkowski, who could have a solid game against the Oakland Raiders.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski limited

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 16:09:23 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski should play again, but the big question remains, how many snaps will he play? Against the Oakland Raiders, Gronk is a very tempting play, especially with his price relatively low at FantasyScore ($7,600; 15.2% of cap).

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski limited Wednesday

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 15:40:19 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk had four catches (six targets) for 32 yards in Week 2, and he's still likely working up to speed after offseason knee surgery. His $7,600 salary at FantasyScore is attractive against the Oakland Raiders, but you may want to hold off until we see him more involved.

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 13:38:27 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited again in practice Thursday, Sept. 11.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski remains limited

Wed, 10 Sep 2014 14:19:25 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk was targeted 11 times by Tom Brady in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, but he only caught four of those targets, and he bailed out his fantasy owners with a touchdown grab. Expect Gronkowski to be more productive as he gets closer to 100 percent. He's a fine investment yet again in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings for $5,700 (11.4% of cap) at FantasyScore.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski plans to wear brace

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 10:33:46 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee), who said he fully expects to play in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, will likely wear a brace over his surgically repaired knee, but he doesn't plan on changing the style in which he plays the game.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk could be a bargain for those in traditional leagues if he can stay healthy all year. In daily games for the season opener, it's probably wise to play it safe and go with another option for your tight end, though, until we know he's 100 percent healthy.

Patriots | No decision on Rob Gronkowski

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 10:12:56 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (knee) status for Week 1 has not been determined, according to head coach Bill Belichick. "I'm glad that Rob's optimistic about this situation," Belichick said. "We'll go through the week of practice and take a look at everything, everybody, and see where everybody's at and try to do what we feel like is best for the team. With all due respect to Rob -- I'm glad he feels the way he does -- but, in the end, we'll have to make the decision we feel like is best for the team and we'll do that as we go through the week."

Fantasy Tip: This could be Belichick being cautious with the team's plans for Week 1, but it is worth monitoring Gronkowski's practice status throughout the rest of the week. If Gronk is healthy and active in Week 1, he should be started.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski to be on snap count

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 08:29:06 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) will be on a snap count in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk is still worth starting in most traditional leagues, but his daily-game value takes a hit. For a predetermined, part-time workload, he probably isn't worth the high-end cost yet. We could see more out of Julian Edelman and Shane Vereen in the opener.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski likely to sit

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 09:07:39 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) continues to make progress in his rehab but likely will sit out the final preseason game. Gronkowski is looking to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Gronkowski will be ready for the season even though he did not play in the preseason. Gronkowski should be considered a starting tight end in all leagues, but owners should have a solid backup on the team since Gronkowski has dealt with injuries in the past.

Patriots | No setbacks for Rob Gronkowski

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 15:30:48 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has not encountered any setbacks from the end of last week, and the acquisition of TE Timothy Wright is not a sign that the team is concerned about Gronkowski's health. The Patriots have wanted to remain cautious with Gronkowski's workload this preseason. Wright is a "move" tight end, similar to the role free-agent TE Aaron Hernandez used to play with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski remains a fine risk as a TE1, as long as he stays healthy. As Wesseling mentions, Wright won't ever take the place of Gronkowski in blocking situations, but he could be useful as a TE2, especially if Gronk is limited at all early in the season.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski favoring knee?

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 15:57:57 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) is still favoring his right knee in practice, and he ran with a decent limp Thursday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: The Gronk can be a beast when healthy, the problem is he now has an extensive injury history, which should move him down a few pegs from being considered a top-tier tight end. He still has some time to recover before the season opener, but he'll be a pretty big risk for his price in Week 1.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has a 50-50 chance to be ready for Week 1, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski could be one of the biggest risk-reward picks in fantasy leagues this year. He is one of the top-two tight ends in all formats when healthy, but there are serious question about whether or not he will be 100 percent when the season begins and whether he can stay healthy for 16 games. Still, you have to start thinking about pulling the trigger if he is still available late in the third round or beyond.
