Fri, 17 May 2013 15:15:08 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (back) problem with a disc in his back is not related to the disc problem he had while in college in 2009. Gronkowski underwent a procedure to fix his back problem in college. It is not known when Gronkowski suffered his current injury.
Fri, 17 May 2013 14:20:12 -0700 Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (back, forearm) "chronic" back problem, even if it does require surgery, won't keep him from participating in training camp, unless his forearm needs several more surgeries. Gronkowski's disc problem is different from the disc problem he dealt with in 2009, when he had the disc shaved down. However, his new disc problem dates back to last season. The star tight end was surrounded by rumors in 2010 that he dealt with spinal stenosis, or the narrowing of the spinal column that can lead to degenerative discs and joint pain. However, those rumors were quickly dismissed. Fantasy Tip: If Gronkowski's forearm injury allows him to return in time for training camp and Week 1, he may not be 100 percent healthy. However, if he's on the field and playing, fantasy owners will find it hard not to view him as a TE1. Temper your expectations early, though, and keep tabs on his recovery from these injuries this offseason.
Fri, 17 May 2013 14:16:06 -0700 Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) probably will need to undergo back surgery but is waiting for a second option at this point. His back surgery likely would occur three to four weeks after his upcoming forearm surgery. His back surgery would be delayed if Gronkowski needs two surgeries on his forearm. Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski's availability for the start of the regular season could come into question if he does undergo back surgery in the next few weeks. Owners that take Gronkowski in their drafts should look to take a strong No. 2 tight end in case he does miss some games.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:37:38 -0700 Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (back, forearm) back issue is believed to be minor, and if he does need surgery, he is not expected to miss more time than it would take to recover from the forearm issue he is dealing with. Fantasy Tip: Good news in that the issue is only believed to be minor and it won’t keep him out longer than he expected to be out with the forearm issue. Still, it is concerning that he is dealing will these injuries. Keep an eye on his status in the coming weeks as you start to put together your draft boards.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:32:01 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) could require surgery on his back for a disc issue he has been dealing with. Gronkowski recently underwent an MRI, and if he is forced to have the surgery, could be ready in the same amount of time it would take to recover from the arm issue. Fantasy Tip: Another red flag for the Patriots tight end. Add the back issues to the forearm issues, and the idea that when healthy, he would likely split looks with Aaron Hernandez, and it all leads to dropping Gronkowski on your draft board. If healthy, he is obviously still a TE1, but his health is a big question mark at this point.
Fri, 17 May 2013 10:12:01 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will likely need a fifth surgery that would probably keep him out of the start of training camp if his infection hasn't cleared when they operate on him for the fourth time next week. The team won't have a true timetable until he undergoes another procedure next week. Gronkowski has been taking antibiotics. Fantasy Tip: Gronk's fantasy value as a top-tier tight end is in serious doubt until he has his surgery next week. That will give us a much better idea of whether he has a chance to be ready for Week 1. If another surgery is needed, you can probably count him out and drop him down in your rankings. Aaron Hernandez is recovering from shoulder surgery, but if he's ready for the start of the season and Gronk isn't, Hernandez's stock will shoot up.
Thu, 16 May 2013 16:12:06 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday, May 20. He underwent X-rays on his forearm Wednesday, May 15, and had his forearm examined. Doctors will see if the infection is still in Gronkowski's forearm. The team expects Gronkowski to be ready for training camp.
Wed, 08 May 2013 09:13:49 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will need a fourth surgery on his forearm to change the plate that is securing the forearm. It is still not known if the infection in his forearm has cleared, which is delaying the surgery to replace the plate. Gronkowski probably would need a fifth surgery if the infection has not cleared, and his status for the start of the regular season would be uncertain. Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski's status for Week 1 is still up in the air and it likely will be a few more weeks before it is known if he will need one or two more surgeries. Gronkowski is a definite No. 1 tight end when healthy but this situation will affect his value if he needs two surgeries. Owners should look for a strong tight end as their No. 2 tight end if they select Gronkowski. Aaron Hernandez is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, which has put his status for Week 1 in question. If both tight ends are not ready, Jake Ballard likely would take a bigger role in the passing game.
Sun, 05 May 2013 08:11:53 -0700 New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will have to wait a few more weeks before finding out if he needs another surgery on his forearm. Gronkowski has been participating in the team's offseason workouts and has looked very good.
Thu, 11 Apr 2013 17:35:59 -0700 Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) may not need surgery if his fractured forearm heals and the infection goes away on its own. He probably would undergo surgery if his forearm does not heal and the infection does not clear up in around six weeks.
