Orioles | Baltimore lands Mark Trumbo

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:42:26 -0800

Updating a previous story, the Baltimore Orioles acquired OF Mark Trumbo as part of a deal that sent C Steve Clevenger to the Seattle Mariners, Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo has always possessed 30-homer power, but he is an all-or-nothing hitter. This trade does send him to a hitter-friendly home park, so you could do worse if you are searching for power in the final rounds of drafts in season-long leagues.

Mariners | Steve Clevenger acquired by Seattle

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:36:02 -0800

The Seattle Mariners acquired C Steve Clevenger in a trade that sent OF Mark Trumbo to the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger hit .287 in 101 at-bats for Baltimore last year, but the 29-year-old owns a .228 average over 416 at-bats for his career. He offers little in the way of upside, and there is no guarantee he will see regular playing time for Seattle.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo could be dealt to Baltimore

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:21:31 -0800

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo could be traded for Baltimore Orioles C Steve Clevenger. Sources for both teams confirmed trade discussions, but one source said that there are still details that need to be worked out.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo has been a boom-or-bust hitter throughout his career, and his 30-homer power is offset but a horrible batting average. Still, he would be worth a flier if you are chasing power late in drafts if he ends up playing his home games in Baltimore's hitter-friendly park.

Orioles | Steve Clevenger receives start

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 07:34:11 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Steve Clevenger will serve as the designated hitter in the first game of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees Saturday, Oct. 3, and is batting seventh against SP Ivan Nova.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting .303 in limited playing time this season, but owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Matt Wieters catching Saturday

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 12:46:00 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters will bat fifth and start behind the plate against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Saturday, Sept. 19, with C Steve Clevenger serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth. C Caleb Joseph is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is just 1-for-14 over the past week and is 2-for-10 in his career against Ramirez, so he should be avoided in FantasyScore. Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 2-for-5 versus Ramirez and is hitting .306 for the season, so he could be a suitable backstop for owners in need of moderate cap relief.

Orioles | Nolan Reimold, Steve Clevenger slam BAL to win

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 23:44:45 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Nolan Reimold and C Steve Clevenger each hit grand slams in the same inning Friday, Sept. 11, as part of a 14-8 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) are decent options at the low FantasyScore price, particularly Reimold. His bat has been doing very well as of late.

Orioles | Matt Wieters remains out

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 07:52:28 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada. C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is hitting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see when Wieters ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) will be able to return to the lineup. Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has at least one hit in six of his last eight games with four RBI in that span. He could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes the DH Friday

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 13:08:15 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jimmy Paredes is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Friday, Sept. 4. C Steve Clevenger will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has fallen out of favor in Baltimore after a really nice first half of the season. With rosters expanding this week, it'll continue to be hard for him to find his way into the starting lineup. Most will easily overlook him tonight on FantasyScore, and he's a very mediocre second base target against Hutchison, who has been a much better pitcher at home in 2015.

Orioles | Steve Clevenger hitting sixth

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:19:25 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Steve Clevenger is batting sixth as the designated hitter against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Monday, Aug. 31. C Caleb Joseph is starting behind the plate and batting eight, and C Matt Wieters is starting at first base and batting fifth Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Rarely do you see a team find room for three catchers in their starting lineup, but all three are risky FantasyScore plays Monday. Archer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) is a tough draw, and with 13 games on the schedule, Wieters ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) might be the only lean of the trio. You should likely look elsewhere in daily contests.

Orioles | Steve Clevenger going on paternity leave

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:49:22 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Steve Clevenger will be placed on the paternity list Monday, Aug. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has played well of late with a .395/.422/.535 slash line over 45 plate appearances with the Orioles this season, including an active seven-game hitting streak. Check back for updates on when Clevenger will rejoin the team, and avoid him in all fantasy formats until then.
