Patriots | Rob Gronkowski could need back surgery

Fri, 17 May 2013 12:32:01 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) could require surgery on his back for a disc issue he has been dealing with. Gronkowski recently underwent an MRI, and if he is forced to have the surgery, could be ready in the same amount of time it would take to recover from the arm issue.

Fantasy Tip: Another red flag for the Patriots tight end. Add the back issues to the forearm issues, and the idea that when healthy, he would likely split looks with Aaron Hernandez, and it all leads to dropping Gronkowski on your draft board. If healthy, he is obviously still a TE1, but his health is a big question mark at this point.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski update

Fri, 17 May 2013 10:12:01 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will likely need a fifth surgery that would probably keep him out of the start of training camp if his infection hasn't cleared when they operate on him for the fourth time next week. The team won't have a true timetable until he undergoes another procedure next week. Gronkowski has been taking antibiotics.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk's fantasy value as a top-tier tight end is in serious doubt until he has his surgery next week. That will give us a much better idea of whether he has a chance to be ready for Week 1. If another surgery is needed, you can probably count him out and drop him down in your rankings. Aaron Hernandez is recovering from shoulder surgery, but if he's ready for the start of the season and Gronk isn't, Hernandez's stock will shoot up.

Patriots | Aaron Hernandez could miss four months

Mon, 22 Apr 2013 08:32:53 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) could need around four months to recover from shoulder surgery. He could be put on the Physically Unable to Perform list when training camp opens.

Fantasy Tip: That would leave him with enough time to be ready for the season. However, any potential setbacks could be costly. Julian Edelman is likely to be the main beneficiary if Hernandez misses time. He is used as a slot receiver pretty often, and Edelman could receive an increase in targets. Jake Ballard could also become an interesting name. However, it's still early - sit tight for now.

Patriots | Aaron Hernandez not expected to take part in workouts

Sun, 21 Apr 2013 08:14:11 -0700

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) is not expected to participate in offseason workouts because he will be recovering from shoulder surgery. Hernandez is expected to face a recovery period of around four months. He likely will be ready for the start of the regular season unless he suffers a setback.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Hernandez will be taking it easy this offseason to allow his shoulder to heal. He likely has a good chance to be ready for the season and should be a No. 1 tight end for teams in 2013.

Patriots | Aaron Hernandez goes under knife

Tue, 16 Apr 2013 05:20:10 -0700

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) underwent shoulder surgery this offseason. He's unlikely to participate in OTAs and mini-camps this spring.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound too serious with the limited information we have. At this point, you can expect him to be ready for the season unless something else is revealed.

Patriots | Aaron Hernandez changes workouts

Thu, 11 Apr 2013 07:03:19 -0700

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez moved to Los Angeles and secluded himself from everyone while he changed his workouts this offseason in hopes of playing 16 games next season. "Just been training, trying to get my body right, get my strength up so I can have a decent season next year," Hernandez said. "I'd say more attention to specific muscles instead of just doing the basic bench, squat and all that other stuff. I'd say I started a little earlier this year to maybe try to get through 16 games this season."

Patriots | Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd on the way out?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013 04:42:11 -0800

There is growing speculation that New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Wes Welker and WR Brandon Lloyd may not return in 2013. With TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez on the roster, the offense would only have to change slightly without Welker. Hernandez would serve as the slot receiver, with Gronkowski working the middle of the field, in such a scenario. The Patriots may also not want to pay Lloyd a $3 million option he is due.

Patriots | Aaron Hernandez to work out with Tom Brady

Wed, 06 Feb 2013 05:33:02 -0800

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez has rented a place in Southern California, in order to participate in offseason workouts with QB Tom Brady.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez could be an even bigger part of the passing game in 2013, if Wes Welker does not return, so participating in offseason workouts with Brady could help build even better chemistry with his quarterback.

Patriots | Likely to focus on WR depth

Mon, 28 Jan 2013 13:25:04 -0800

The New England Patriots are likely to focus their attention on building their wide receiver depth both through free agency and the draft. They need wideout insurance in case TEs Rob Gronkowski or Aaron Hernandez suffer more injuries and are forced to miss time.
