Rays | Alex Colome gaining weight

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 22:20:42 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome (illness) has re-discovered his appetite, and he has gained back five of the 10 pounds he lost while in the hospital dealing with pneumonia. He was able to throw a 20-pitch bullpen session Monday, March 23, and he said he felt good.

Fantasy Tip: Colome was in the mix for the No. 5 rotation job, and he was considered the favorite before his bout with illness. It's uncertain if his status as favorite has changed during this layoff, but being out certainly has helped his chances.

Rays | Alex Colome hospitalized

Sat, 14 Mar 2015 14:33:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome (pneumonia) has been hospitalized due to pneumonia, according to manager Kevin Cash. He is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday, March 14, or Sunday, March 15.

Fantasy Tip: Colome had been the favorite to win the No. 5 spot in the Rays' starting rotation but this setback could put his Opening Day status in jeopardy. If he recovers in time, he could be a late-round flier in deep AL-only leagues.

Rays | Alex Colome likely to win rotation spot

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 11:50:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome is the favorite to win the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation, even though he remains at the organization's facility in the Dominican Republic because of visa issues. SPs Matt Andriese and Burch Smith are also in the running for the job.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has a leg up on the competition because he is out of options. He is expected to hold a rotation spot until Matt Moore returns from Tommy John surgery in late June or early July. He should be monitored in deep AL-only leagues.

Rays | Alex Colome will start Friday

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 08:51:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome will be called up from Triple-A Durham to start the first doubleheader game Friday, June 27, against the Baltimore Orioles. SP Jake Odorizzi will start the second contest.

Fantasy Tip: The intriguing but erratic Colome would be used as a spot-starter for appropriate deep-mixed situations. He may be an option to take a rotation spot should the Rays do any cleaning of house near the trade deadline, so he's worth an AL-only stash.
