Rays | Alex Colome remains perfect

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 00:08:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome threw his 21st save in as many chances Thursday, July 21, in a 7-3 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been a lights-out closer when healthy, especially as Brad Boxberger has been out all season with injuries. Colome's chances for saves are somewhat limited due to Tampa Bay's woes, but he should still be played in all relevant formats.

Rays | Alex Colome activated from DL

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 12:32:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome (biceps) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, July 5. In a corresponding move, RP Danny Farquhar was optioned to the minors.

Fantasy Tip: With 19 saves, a 1.76 ERA and 11.2 K/9, Colome has established himself as a solid closer option in all fantasy leagues. It isn't out of the question to wait for him to prove his health in an outing before returning him to your starting lineups, though.

Rays | Two Tampa relievers throw Monday

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 11:59:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RPs Alex Colome (biceps) played catch, and Brad Boxberger (oblique) threw a light bullpen session Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Colome projects to return soon and pick up where he left off in the ninth inning (19 saves with a 1.76 ERA and 11.2 K/9). He should be owned in all fantasy leagues and started confidently once he is back. Boxberger, on the other hand, is more of a speculative stash for saves starved teams in deep mixed leagues.

Rays | Alex Colome progressing toward return

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 13:07:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome (biceps) felt good after throwing Thursday, June 30, and he plans to play catch again Friday, July 1, with a bullpen session planned for Sunday, July 3. He could return from the disabled list Tuesday, July 5, or Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: With 19 saves, a 1.76 ERA and 11.2 K/9 before the injury, Colome has solidified himself as a solid fantasy option in all fantasy leagues. Continue to stash him. The window for Erasmo Ramirez or Xavier Cedeno to vulture a save is closing. Stay tuned for updates.

Rays | Alex Colome placed on the DL

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:39:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome (biceps) was placed on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis Tuesday, June 28. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, June 19, and Colome expects to be ready to return from the disabled list when eligible Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a road bump and not a detour for Colome owners. He has emerged as a solid closer for fantasy clubs with 19 saves, a 1.76 ERA and 11.2 K/9. Stash him in all seasonal leagues. Look for Erasmo Ramirez or Xavier Cedeno to step in for any save chances with Colome out. Ramirez is the better fantasy bet.

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 19:23:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome blew the save and took the loss against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, June 18, allowing three runs on three hits.

Fantasy Tip: Colome still owns an impressive 1.76 ERA this year and is in no danger of losing his closing gig.

Rays | Alex Colome remains perfect

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:19:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome tied the club record for most consecutive saves to start a season with his 16th, earned Monday, June 6, in a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Colome has yet to allow a run in his 16 save chances spanning 16 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good thing Colome is doing quite well, what with Brad Boxberger back on the disabled list with side issues. Colome may be playing his way into a possible trade to another team in the future (or it could be Boxberger). Whatever the case, if your league uses saves then play Colome. He's been lights out all year.

Rays | Alex Colome available Monday

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 16:31:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome will be available in a save situation Monday, June 6, despite working in the last three games, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been outstanding for the Rays in the ninth-inning role this year with a 1.08 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 12.2 K/9 and 15 saves in 15 tries. He's thrown three innings the last three days, so keep an eye on his effectiveness if he's used again this evening. It appears Colome has earned the closer's job for the rest of the year even when Brad Boxberger returns from his injury in the second half.

Rays | Alex Colome forced into action

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 19:04:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome recorded the final out of a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, June 4, after RP Tyler Sturdevant allowed a run in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has now thrown 42 pitches over the last two games, so don't be surprised if he receives a day off in the near future.
