Fri, 24 May 2013 15:18:30 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) could return from a mild oblique strain when he's eligible to return from the disabled list in two weeks, but Utley is cautious in not rushing himself back. "We really won't know for another week or so, how it's recovering," Utley said. "Obviously I'd like to be back in 15 days. But I don't think it's smart to come back if it's not ready." Fantasy Tip: Utley is widely known as a slow healer, so don't expect him to return in two weeks. Even Utley himself seems resigned to the fact that he won't rush to be ready within that time frame. He knows his body. That means Freddy Galvis will retain two-plus week value in deep mixed leagues.
Thu, 23 May 2013 17:20:05 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Although they are terming it a mild oblique injury, we've seen mild injury concerns keep Utley out for much longer than the minimum timetable before. Treat this situation similarly and expect him to be out for longer than 15 days, especially since clubs tend to be extra cautious with oblique ailments. Freddy Galvis, who will likely start at the keystone, will have value in deep mixed leagues until Utley comes back. Cesar Hernandez or Darin Ruf could be recalled from the minors for depth.
Wed, 22 May 2013 09:57:54 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (rib cage) will have an MRI following his absence from the club's game on Tuesday, May 21. He was scratched after he felt pain and a burning sensation in the area following a swing during batting practice. Utley won't play on Wednesday, May 22. It sounds as if the test will take place on Thursday, May 23. If he lands on the disabled list, then Freddy Galvis would fill in at second base, and the club would probably recall INF Cesar Hernandez or 1B/OF Darin Ruf. Fantasy Tip: This doesn't sound like a major injury, but a DL stint, one that could require more than the minimum stay, seems more than likely. Generally, teams don't like to mess around with these kinds of upper-body injuries because of how easily they're aggravated. It's a temporary setback to what has been a nice rebound for Utley, but it's something folks can deal with. Galvis would have value in deep mixed leagues in the interim.
Tue, 21 May 2013 15:59:49 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (side) has been scratched Tuesday, May 21, because of right side discomfort. Fantasy Tip: Freddy Galvis will start in his place tonight and probably for however long Utley needs to sit. Galvis is primarily NL-only fodder but could serve as a desperation play in deep mixed games if this lingers.
Mon, 20 May 2013 16:41:21 -0700 The Philadelphia Phillies are a little concerned that 1B Ryan Howard's (knee) meniscus issues may be related to his Achilles' injury that he suffered in the playoffs back in 2011. "When you look at the meniscus, there's a little piece of it that we're concerned about," trainer Scott Sheridan said. "There's certain tests that make it look like he has a meniscus tear, and that's not as clear cut. If you did an MRI on all of it and you find these changes in the meniscus, the question is – is that what's really causing the symptoms?" Howard is hitting .245 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 41 games, and his .713 OPS is the lowest mark of his career. Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on how Howard progresses over the next several days. He's out tonight, and the team is listing him as day-to-day. These could very easily become a situation that lands the lefty slugger on the disabled list. In that event, Freddy Galvis would likely be a regular in the lineup at third base with Michael Young shifting across the diamond to first.
Mon, 20 May 2013 14:36:11 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (knee) was diagnosed with a change in the meniscus in his knee and inflammation Monday, May 20, and he's listed as day-to-day. He received an injection in his knee Sunday, May 19. Fantasy Tip: With Howard out Sunday, Michael Young shifted to first base and Freddy Galvis manned the hot corner. This is likely what the Phils will go with for however long Howard is out. Galvis will become an NL-only infield target if Howard needs to go on the disabled list.
Sun, 05 May 2013 09:59:01 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins is not in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins Sunday, May 5. INF/OF Freddy Galvis will bat first and play shortstop.
Sat, 04 May 2013 11:57:17 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 3B Michael Young will get the day off against the Miami Marlins Saturday, May 4. INF/OF Freddy Galvis will start at third base.
Sun, 28 Apr 2013 08:15:58 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz is batting fifth against the New York Mets Sunday, April 28. OF Ben Revere (quadriceps) remains out of the lineup and 1B Ryan Howard is getting a day off. INF Kevin Frandsen will play first base, INF/OF Freddy Galvis will play left field and OF John Mayberry Jr. will start in center field.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 12:13:05 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (groin) remains out of the starting lineup Saturday, April 20, against the St. Louis Cardinals. OF/1B John Mayberry Jr. will play first base, INF/OF Freddy Galvis will play left field and OF Domonic Brown (back) will play right field.
