Steelers | Big Ben, Antonio Brown to sit Friday

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 09:56:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown will not play in the team's exhibition opener against the New York Giants on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have no reason to expose their quarterback and arguably the game's best receiver to potential injury this weekend, especially when neither player would play more than one or two series anyway. Expect the duo to get their first preseason snaps on Aug. 20 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Steelers | Antonio Brown on hot streak

Tue, 04 Jul 2017 12:00:27 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is the third wide receiver in NFL history to amass at least 400 catches, 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in years four through seven of a professional career. Former WRs Herman Moore and Marvin Harrison are the other two receivers to accomplish the feat.

Fantasy Tip: Brown hasn't stopped being elite since 2013 -- the year after Hines Ward retired. Since then he has averaged 120.25 catches, 1,578.75 yards and 10.75 touchdowns per season. He has been a top three PPR wide receiver in each of those four seasons as well. Needless to say, Brown deserves consideration as early as the first overall pick of fantasy drafts.

Steelers | Antonio Brown ran wrong routes in 2016?

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 10:21:32 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown has already had contract with the front office in regards to a contract extension, but Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes the team should consider trading him as he enters his walk year. According to Cook, Brown committed three excessive celebration penalties early in the season, jogged back to the line of scrimmage in the team's first playoff game during a two-minute drill and frequently ran the wrong routes in more than one game as a way to pout about how he was being used.

Fantasy Tip: As Cook points out, the Steelers have a lot of places to spend the money they would theoretically not use on Brown should they decide enough is enough, such as extending Le'Veon Bell and/or Stephon Tuitt. It's unlikely a trade ever comes to fruition, but it has become clear the Facebook Live incident drove some of the people on the fence about Brown's previous antics over the edge. The 28-year-old Brown is a good bet to remain a Steeler and remain a top-three fantasy receiver for at least one or two more years.

Steelers | Pittsburgh begins talks with Antonio Brown

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 17:18:50 -0800

The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun contract extension talks with WR Antonio Brown and both sides are optimistic about agreement being reached well before training camp, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Brown has been one of the best receivers in the NFL over the last few years but has been underpaid during those seasons. The two sides have plenty of time to work on a deal, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Brown will be a No. 1 receiver in leagues in 2017 and could be a first-round pick in drafts.

Steelers | Antonio Brown deal should get done

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 14:27:25 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is expected to get a long-term deal done in his contract year, according to owner Art Rooney.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously the Steelers want to lock up Brown for a long time. He's arguably the best receiver in the NFL and is a PPR mammoth every season. As is the case every year, Brown should be one of, if not, the first receivers taken in fantasy drafts in 2017.

Steelers | Antonio Brown not long for Pittsburgh?

Sun, 29 Jan 2017 10:20:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is about to enter the final season of a six-year contract he signed in 2012. However, his antics are reportedly "wearing thin" on some of his teammates and coaches. One week after live streaming head coach Mike Tomlin's postgame speech after the Steelers' Divisional Round over the Kansas City Chiefs, he drew criticism from Ben Roethlisberger for pouting about not getting the ball enough in the AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Brown has not missed a game in four years and is one of the hardest working players on the team, by all accounts. While he does appear to have leverage in any future negotiations with the Steelers, the team hasn't hesitated moving on from players who may bring unfavorable attention to the organization. In all likelihood, Brown will work something out with Pittsburgh sometime in the next few months. He will once again be in the running to be the first receiver off the board in fantasy drafts in 2017.

Steelers | Antonio Brown struggled in zone

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 12:21:42 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown caught just five passes for 53 yards in zone coverage against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. He only bested Patriots CB Malcolm Butler for two catches and 24 yards in zone coverage.

Fantasy Tip: Butler did a great job in coverage all game. Look for him to shadow Julio Jones as much as possible in the Super Bowl. Despite Brown's lack of success in such a crucial game, he remains a top-tier receiver in all fantasy formats for 2017.

Steelers | Antonio Brown in rare company

Tue, 17 Jan 2017 16:01:42 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is one of only two receivers in NFL history to achieve four consecutive seasons of at least 100 catches. Former Indianapolis Colts Marvin Harrison is the other.

Fantasy Tip: Not much can be said about Brown's accolades that haven't already been said. He's the best receiver in the league and he proves it year after year. His high volume of catches makes him more valuable in PPR leagues, but he should be the first receiver taken in both PPR and standard leagues.

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 13:37:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown may be fined for violating the NFL's social media policy for his post-game live stream in the Steelers' locker room. League policy prohibits players from posting messages on social media 90 minutes before kickoff through post-game interviews.

Fantasy Tip: Other than a possible fine, don't expect harsh repercussions from Brown's post-game gaffe. He's the best receiver in the NFL and should be the first receiver taken in fantasy drafts next season, particularly in PPR leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The 28-year-old Brown had 106 receptions for 1,284 yards and 12 touchdowns during the regular season and is arguably the most productive receiver in the league. He should be viewed as a high-end WR1 in all postseason fantasy pools and is worthy of a first-round selection in 2017 seasonal drafts.

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 11:11:05 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown will not play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Eli Rogers and Cobi Hamilton should receive more targets with Brown not on the field. Rogers is coming off a solid Week 16 performance and can be a low-end No. 3 receiver or a flex option in leagues. Hamilton probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Steelers | Pittsburgh likely to rest key players

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 09:50:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin suggested Tuesday, Dec. 27, that QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Antonio Brown and C Maurkice Pouncey probably won't play in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns. "They are guys I'll look hard at protecting and preserving," Tomlin said.

Fantasy Tip: No surprise here, as the Pittsburgh is locked into a No. 3 seed during the AFC playoffs and has nothing to gain regardless of the result. Landry Jones, Fitzgerald Toussaint and Eli Rogers will likely be the Steelers' top offensive weapons this weekend, although Pittsburgh could easily choose to increase DeAngelo Williams' workload since he has seen only one snap since Week 8 following knee surgery. In such a favorable matchup, whomever starts between Toussaint or Williams could be a nice play in DFS.

Sun, 25 Dec 2016 17:02:09 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown caught 10 passes for 96 yards and one touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Owners were probably disappointed in Brown's stats in the previous three weeks, but he posted a terrific stat line in Week 16. He will be a risky fantasy option in Week 17 because there is a chance that he sits out the game, so owners should monitor the situation.

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 07:06:13 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is expected to be shadowed by New York Giants CB Janoris Jenkins in Week 13.

Steelers | Antonio Brown could go off in Week 11

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 21:38:03 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown will meet the Cleveland Browns in Week 11. The Browns rank 27th in the NFL against the pass, giving up 275.4 yards per game through the air. Cleveland has given up 25 touchdowns through the air, most in the NFL, and 40 pass plays of 20 or more yards.

Fantasy Tip: Brown is an absolute stud regardless of opponent, but it would be a huge upset if he didn't go for triple-digit yardage and at least one visit to the end zone against Cleveland's leaky pass D.

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 19:50:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger looked "really good" in practice and looked like himself, according to WR Antonio Brown.

Steelers | Antonio Brown kept in check by Ravens

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 09:06:56 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown has scored one touchdown in 13 career meetings (including playoffs) versus the Baltimore Ravens. Against all other teams, Brown has averaged one score every two games.

Fantasy Tip: The fly in Brown's ointment over most of that time has been Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith. In Smith's seven games versus Pittsburgh, Brown has one 100-yard game and no touchdowns. Brown is obviously a WR1 regardless of the matchup and Smith doesn't always shadow him, so the star wideout obviously needs to be started in all leagues. Owners just need to be aware his upside will be limited.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, and he is averaging five catches for 65.5 yards in 13 career meetings with the Baltimore Ravens and has just one total touchdown.

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 18:41:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (hip) was listed as a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 3, for the second consecutive day.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 20:21:58 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown posted four receptions for 39 yards in the Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: With the Steelers behind for a majority of the game, it's surprising Brown didn't have more stats even in garbage time. Credit the Dolphins with holding him down. AB will look to bounce back in Week 7 against the visiting New England Patriots, although his fantasy production might take a hit with Landry Jones likely to start at least a game or two with Ben Roethlisberger set to have surgery for a torn meniscus.
