New York Yankees C Russell Martin has gone to hitting coach Kevin Long looking for answers to his early-season slump, which has Martin currently batting .179. "We worked on getting my backside through and I felt a lot more comfortable,'' Martin said.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez has been picking up his front leg too high, according to hitting coach Kevin Long, and that has contributed to his plate slump. Since April 24, Rodriguez is hitting .170 (9-for-53) in 14 games with four walks and one extra-base hit, a double on April 28.

New York Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long agreed to a three-year contract extension Monday, Nov. 1, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira met with hitting coach Kevin Long for 20 minutes following his five-strikeout performance against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, June 5, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand. Long wants Teixeira's approach at the plate to be geared towards hitting the ball toward the middle of the field as opposed to pulling the ball. He also wants Teixeira's contact swing to be shorter, especially against the changeup, which opposing pitchers are emphasizing against him. Long doesn't want Teixeira to guess when changeups will be thrown but just wants him to be more aware of how teams are pitching to him.
