Mon, 15 Apr 2013 11:59:44 -0700 New York Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) shagged balls in the outfield Sunday, April 14, and he threw Thursday, April 11, and Saturday, April 13, for the first time since his injury. He said he could start swinging a bat this week, although he hasn't yet. Manager Joe Girardi thinks a return on May 1 may be overly optimistic because Granderson still needs to play in rehab games and play in back-to-back contests before returning. Hitting coach Kevin Long said Granderson needs around 50 to 70 at-bats to be ready.
Mon, 22 Oct 2012 11:47:04 -0700 New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said hitting coach Kevin Long's job is safe. "He's safe. ... Kevin Long is without question one of the best hitting coaches in the game, and what took place here is a collective failure, not an individual one, and no one is going to be pointed at as a scapegoat," Cashman said.
Sun, 21 Oct 2012 23:48:23 -0700 The New York Yankees have no plans to fire hitting coach Kevin Long, as the team calls the failure to hit during the American League Championship Series a collective problem and not to be blamed on one person.
Sun, 13 May 2012 00:08:09 -0700 New York Yankees C Russell Martin has gone to hitting coach Kevin Long looking for answers to his early-season slump, which has Martin currently batting .179. "We worked on getting my backside through and I felt a lot more comfortable,'' Martin said.
Tue, 10 May 2011 02:23:50 -0700 New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez has been picking up his front leg too high, according to hitting coach Kevin Long, and that has contributed to his plate slump. Since April 24, Rodriguez is hitting .170 (9-for-53) in 14 games with four walks and one extra-base hit, a double on April 28.
Mon, 01 Nov 2010 12:24:22 -0700 New York Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long agreed to a three-year contract extension Monday, Nov. 1, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sun, 06 Jun 2010 09:05:01 -0700 New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira met with hitting coach Kevin Long for 20 minutes following his five-strikeout performance against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, June 5, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand. Long wants Teixeira's approach at the plate to be geared towards hitting the ball toward the middle of the field as opposed to pulling the ball. He also wants Teixeira's contact swing to be shorter, especially against the changeup, which opposing pitchers are emphasizing against him. Long doesn't want Teixeira to guess when changeups will be thrown but just wants him to be more aware of how teams are pitching to him. |
