Braves | Tommy Hanson named Opening Day starter

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez announced that SP Tommy Hanson will serve as the team's Opening Day starter Thursday, April 5, against the New York Mets. After an off day Friday, April 6, SPs Jair Jurrjens and Mike Minor will start the final two games of the Mets series. SP Brandon Beachy will open a three-game series against the Houston Astros April 9, with Hanson pitching on April 10 or April 11. The winner of the fifth-starter competition between Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran will start the game that Hanson doesn't pitch in. Jurrjens is scheduled to start the home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers April 13.

Atlanta Braves SP Randall Delgado gave up three runs (two earned) and three hits in three innings in his second Grapefruit League start against the New York Mets Friday, March 9. He struck out two and walked one in the outing. "It was the same thing I did in the first game," Delgado said of his second-inning woes. "I got behind in the count, one ball, two balls, and I had to come back right in the middle (of the plate). That's why sometimes I get hit. In the third (inning) I did what I did in the first inning." Delgado is competing with SP Julio Teheran for a spot in the rotation to begin the year.
