Arizona Diamondbacks SP Bronson Arroyo (back) will miss the next seven to 10 days after receiving an epidural injection for an inflamed disc in his back Wednesday, March 5. He was scratched from his spring start Tuesday, March 4, after feeling pain while warming up. "(The doctors) just want it to calm down before he starts throwing again," general manager Kevin Towers said. "Of course, Arroyo doesn't think it'll take that long. We'll just have to play it by ear to see how he's feeling." Arroyo has never been on the disabled list in his career.
Fantasy Tip: If Arroyo isn't ready for the start of the season, that'd leave the door open for the likes of Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley or Daniel Hudson. Bradley has the most upside of the trio, but the Snakes may decide he needs more seasoning. Delgado or Hudson would likely be just a short-term option for NL-only leaguers, depending on how much time Arroyo misses.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have RPs Josh Collmenter, David Hernandez, J.J. Putz, Addison Reed, Joe Thatcher and Brad Ziegler appear to be locks for bullpen jobs, which might mean RP Will Harris is the odd man out. He has options remaining. RP Randall Delgado does not have options remaining, and that might mean Harris loses out in a numbers game.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado is likely to make the roster and pitch out of the bullpen because he doesn't have any minor league options remaining, according to general manager Kevin Towers.

The signing of veteran SP Bronson Arroyo by the Arizona Diamondbacks gives the team's rotation greater depth, and also means that the team will either move SP Randall Delgado to the bullpen, where some feel he is better suited, or Triple-A to start.

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Reds) to an undisclosed two-year deal Friday, Feb. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Entering his age-37 season, there's really not much else to Arroyo that we don't already know. He's not going to strike out many hitters, and his best attribute at this point in his career has been his ability to stay healthy and log innings. Not much fantasy intrigue, especially since he's moving to another hitter-friendly environment. Arroyo's entrance into the starting rotation likely pushes Randall Delgado out of the picture, at least to start the year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks may rely on SP Archie Bradley rounding out the rotation out of spring training, since they aren't enamored with free-agent SPs Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians) or Ervin Santana (Royals). However, Bradley hasn't pitched above Class AA and isn't currently on the 40-man roster, but he'll get a chance to compete for the fifth rotation spot. He's generally regarded as one of the top two or three pitching prospects in all of baseball. Bradley will mainly be competing with SP Randall Delgado this spring. Service time for Bradley and an innings limit will be heavily weighed by the team. General manager Kevin Towers wants to aim for 175 to 180 innings for Bradley this year.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado will get another chance to start Sunday, June 23, against the Cincinnati Reds.
Fantasy Tip: Delgado looked pretty good Tuesday against the Miami Marlins, scattering eight hits over seven innings while allowing just two earned runs, no walks and six strikeouts in a no-decision. Of course, that was the Marlins. Let's see how he looks against a major league caliber team before getting too excited. Right now, he is worth a look in NL-only formats if you need pitching help, as his strikeouts could potentially be numerous.

The Arizona Diamondbacks aren't saying how long SP Randall Delgado may stay in the starting rotation after taking the spot of SP Tyler Skaggs. The team didn't use P Josh Collmenter for the rotation because they think he fits best in a long-relief role. Manager Kirk Gibson isn't committing to Delgado past his start Tuesday, June 18, though.
Fantasy Tip: Delgado is making the start in place of Brandon McCarthy (shoulder). How Delgado fares tonight will likely determine if he'll remain in the rotation or if the D-backs will recall Tyler Skaggs. Delgado is purely NL-only fodder right now.

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned P Charles Brewer to Triple-A Reno Tuesday, June 18, to make room on the roster for SP Randall Delgado.
