Titans | Kendall Wright addition hurts other receivers

The addition of Tennessee Titans rookie WR Kendall Wright, who was selected in the first round, created a bunch of questions about WR Kenny Britt's (knee) health and which wide receiver may now be the odd man out. Wright has a chance to boost the receiving corps quickly and the team will likely need him to make an impact early.

WRs Damian Williams and Lavelle Hawkins will likely be hurt by Wright's addition. Both improved last year and proved they deserved more playing time, which will be tough to come by with Wright, who is an explosive player who excels on screens, in the mix.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, Dec. 14, that TE Daniel Graham or WR Damian Williams will be the emergency quarterback if QB Matt Hasselbeck (calf) and/or QB Jake Locker (chest) are sidelined in Week 15.

Tennessee Titans WR Damian Williams had just one reception for 16 yards in Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons. It was disappointing after coming off five catches, 107 yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 game. He had also scored in each of his past two games.

Tennessee Titans WR Lavelle Hawkins had five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The score was his first in 37 NFL games over four seasons. WR Damian Williams also had an 8-yard TD grab, finishing with four receptions for 34 yards.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Monday, Oct. 24, that WR Damian Williams (head) should be OK for the Week 8 game against the Indianapolis Colts after tests. "He should be all right," Munchak said. "(Doctors) feel confident he is doing pretty good, so we assume he'll be able to play this weekend."

Tennessee Titans WR Damian Williams (head) was injured in the first half of the Week 7 game against the Houston Texans, and he did not return. "He got the wind knocked out of him the way he fell," head coach Mike Munchak said. "And he had a headache at the same time, so the decision was made not to play him."

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Tuesday, Oct. 18, that the team "looked hard" at WR Brandon Lloyd, who was eventually traded from the Denver Broncos to the St. Louis Rams. "We've looked at every opportunity," Munchak said. "We're always looking to upgrade and we lost (WR Kenny Britt). We have young guys we know can step up - (WRs Damian Williams and Marc Mariani and Lavelle Hawkins)."

Titans | Other options to step up

The Tennessee Titans expect WRs Nate Washington, Damian Williams and Lavelle Hawkins and TE Jared Cook to have larger roles with WR Kenny Britt (knee) out for the season. A new receiver that the team signs won't immediately be near the top of the pecking order. Washington has had at least six catches in all three games so far and is being trusted by receivers coach Dave Ragone, offensive coordinator Chris Palmer and QB Matt Hasselbeck.
