Braves | Arodys Vizcaino lands on DL

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 13:49:02 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 16, with a strained right oblique. RP Eric O'Flaherty (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Jim Johnson is next in line for saves. However, at this point, you pretty much know what he is with a 4.06 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He has 27 K's in 31 innings. Since the team is rebuilding, they could opt to use Chris Withrow or Mauricio Cabrera in the role. Withrow, 27, has a 3.51 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP with a 7.01 K/9. Cabrera has two saves, but one of them came in extras. Obliques usually cost pitchers a month, and Johnson could be trade bait at the deadline. If you're looking for the biggest bang for your FAAB buck, Withrow or Cabrera could be worth some deep fishing lures. Stash Vizcaino as he could slide right back into the role upon his return.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino to the DL

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 20:53:27 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino (oblique) is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, interim manager Brian Snitker said Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Jim Johnson has experience closing and is the best bet to handle the ninth inning while Vizcaino is out. Pick him up if you need help in the saves department.

Braves | Elbow issue for Arodys Vizcaino

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 16:30:05 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino (elbow) was not available Sunday, July 10, because of skin irritation on his right elbow. RP Jim Johnson earned the save against the Chicago White Sox, and interim manager Brian Snitker said he expects Vizcaino to be ready following the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: If you are desperate for saves, Johnson could be worth a speculative add just in case Vizcaino's elbow issue lingers longer than expected.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino yanked in ninth

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 21:24:42 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino was pulled with two outs in the ninth against the Miami Marlins Thursday, June 30, after allowing one run on one hit and two walks. RP Mauricio Cabrera recorded the final out to pick up his first save.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino has had back-to-back bad outings. He should still be considered the favorite to see most of the save chances for the Braves, but the situation is worth keeping an eye on.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino falling on hard times

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 11:29:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in a tied game against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, June 28, and it was his third loss in his last 12 outings, and he's allowed 10 walks in 9 2/3 innings in that span. He had a 1.49 ERA and a .204 opponent's average in his first 56 outings from his return in early July last year to My 29, converting 15 of his 17 save chances and striking out 67 with 20 walks in 54 1/3 innings. However, in 15 appearances since then, he's 0-3 with a 3.55 ERA with three saves in four chances and 16 strikeouts to 10 walks in 12 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino's ERA still sits at a respectable 2.16 on the year, but his 1.32 WHIP and 4.6 walks per nine innings is unsettling to his fantasy owners. There doesn't appear to be any danger of Vizcaino being bumped from the ninth-inning role, but he's hurting his owners more than he helps right now, and the Braves aren't giving him many save chances.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino having bad week

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:29:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA and a blown save in two chances in the last four games, and he's allowed four hits, three runs, a home run and five walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings in that span. He was 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA, .188 opponents' average and just one blown save in 12 chances in his previous 33 outings with 46 strikeouts and just nine walks dating back to Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Every closer goes through a rough patch, and Vizcaino has hit his in 2016. The damage has basically come in two games, and despite it he still has solid numbers with a 2.33 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 12.7 K/9. There isn't much competition for the closer role, so Vizcaino isn't in any real danger of losing his job anytime soon.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino gets back on track

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 16:33:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino rebounded from his blown save on Tuesday, June 7, by successfully closing out the club's victory Wednesday, June 8, opposite the San Diego Padres. He pitched a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out one, en route to claiming his seventh save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: This was an important outing for the youngster, seeing how he can respond from a blown save and a loss the night before. Fortunately for his owners, the 25-year-old passed this test with flying colors. Vizcaino has the ability to be a top closer, but being on the worst team in the league, his potential this year will be limited in terms of opportunities. Still, he can be useful in all formats due to his high strikeout rate and low ERA and WHIP.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino takes the loss

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:38:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino allowed two runs on three hits, including a home run, in 1/3 of an inning against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, June 7. It was his second blown save and first loss of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino entered with a one-run and immediately served up a gopher ball to Derek Norris before giving up the game-winning run a short while later. It was the second time in four games he has given up runs -- raising his ERA from 1.31 to 2.25 -- and dropped him to 6-for-8 on save opportunities for the year. He shouldn't be in any immediate danger of losing the job, but eight chances in two-plus months tells you all you need to know about the 2016 Braves.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino has been lights-out

Thu, 26 May 2016 11:15:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino has a 0.92 ERA, a .182 opponent's average, 41 strikeouts, nine walks, one home run allowed and 10 saves in 11 chances in 29 1/3 innings since Sept. 15 of last season.

Fantasy Tip: The weak-hitting Braves won't provide Vizcaino with many save chances -- he has only five this year -- but his peripherals clearly show that he's extremely valuable to fantasy owners as a low-tier closer.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino nails down fifth save

Sat, 21 May 2016 15:18:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino struck out a pair during a perfect ninth inning Saturday, May 21, to slam the door on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Two saves in four days represents a windfall for Vizcaino, who notched only three over the Braves' first 38 outings. It'd be a minor shock if he isn't a top target for teams at the trade deadline this season and is sporting a 1.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 26:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio thus far, but Atlanta might see the 25-year-old as part of the core group of players it wants to hold on to during its rebuilding process. He's a low-end fantasy closer given his lack of save chances, but worth keeping in lineups nonetheless.
