Eagles | Ryan Mathews cleared

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 08:11:08 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (neck) has been medically cleared Tuesday, Aug. 15, and a decision on his roster status is imminent.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews is likely to be cut, and he could land somewhere of immediate fantasy use. For instance, if he were to land in Dallas, he could be an RB4 target for the first few weeks. It's too early to speculate, and his status should be monitored.

Eagles | Decision on Ryan Mathews coming soon?

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 11:19:48 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews arrived in Philadelphia Monday, Aug. 14, which could generate a decision on his status with the Eagles in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: The Eagles' backfield is crowded even without Mathews. He ran for nearly 700 yards and eight touchdowns last year, but LeGarrette Blount is taking over his role. Mathews is somewhat of a misfit right now. Don't be surprised to see him cut.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews continuing to rehab

Sun, 30 Jul 2017 06:47:54 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (neck) is continuing to rehab from a herniated disc in his neck away from the team.

Fantasy Tip: LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood and Darren Sproles are expected to split carries in the backfield for the Eagles this season, so there is a good chance that Mathews will be released or traded once he is medically cleared to resume playing. He has little fantasy relevance at this point and should be viewed as no better than a No. 5 running back in most leagues.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews still not healthy

Sun, 23 Jul 2017 12:37:39 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (neck) has yet to be medically cleared from offseason neck surgery, and his surgeon doesn't want to revisit the matter until sometime in August, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: More than any other reason, Mathews remains on the roster because releasing him while injured would cost the team more than $1.1 million, and the Cardinals donít have a ton of cap room as it is. This matter may not be resolved for another two or three weeks, but the odds remain strong he will be released as soon as he is medically cleared.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews will be evaluated

Mon, 10 Jul 2017 14:35:27 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (neck) will be evaluated when he reports to training camp in regards to his neck fusion. If he passes the evaluation, he could be released.

Fantasy Tip: LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood seem to have taken over the Eagles' backfield, leaving the injured Mathews on the outside looking in. He can be avoided for fantasy purposes until further notice.

Eagles | Cutting Ryan Mathews would hurt cap

Mon, 03 Jul 2017 13:03:10 -0700

Waiving Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (back) with a failed physical designation would result in a salary cap hit of $1,150,000, according to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice. Kempski added that if there were no salary camp consequences, the Eagles may have already released Mathews.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound like good news for Mathews, who could eventually be released this offseason. Cutting Mathews wouldn't hurt the Eagles, aside from financially, as LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood make for a nice three-headed backfield. Considering Mathews' injury history and the Eagles' depth at running back, Mathews isn't a viable fantasy option right now.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews not on the way out?

Fri, 30 Jun 2017 12:26:51 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles told ESPN's Josina Anderson Friday, June 30, that he - along with backfield mates LeGarrette Blount and Ryan Mathews - "can share the ball and everyone can be happy."

Fantasy Tip: Mathews has long been considered to be on the outs in Philly ever since the Eagles signed Blount, presumably since the latter was supposed to take the former's "big-back" role in the offense. Mathews has to be cleared yet from offseason neck surgery, so his release still seems the most likely move for Philadelphia. Even if he sticks on the roster, he'll be hard to trust as anything more than a RB5.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews done in Philly?

Wed, 17 May 2017 10:00:10 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be released once he is healthy following the signing of LeGarrette Blount, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews has long been rumored to be out in Philadelphia, so Schefter isn't really breaking any new news here. The official move may take a while to happen, since the 29-year-old is still healing from neck surgery. Mathews may get another shot or two at running in the NFL, but his days of being a somewhat useful fantasy back are probably coming to an end.

Eagles | Ryan Mathews cleared to work out

Sat, 29 Apr 2017 18:30:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (back) has been cleared to work out, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said Saturday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Mathews has battled injuries his entire career, and even if he ends up leading Philadelphia's backfield to start 2017, you can't count on him being available the entire season. Consider him a RB4 or RB5 at this point.
