Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson immediately improves wide receivers

The addition of WR Vincent Jackson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense immediately gives the team the No. 1 wide receiver the team and fans were looking for. Jackson, at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, is a big target with surprising speed and an ability to get open downfield. The team said in January they would spend whatever it takes to win in the future, and they did just that as soon as the free-agent market opened. Buccaneers wide receivers struggled to get open last year, leading to a poor season by QB Josh Freeman. With Jackson, 29, in town, the hope is he will draw the attention of opposing defenses and open things up for WRs Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, who become the second and third receivers, respectively. The Buccaneers have also made it clear they are building the team around Freeman, and considering they are looking at high-profile offensive linemen they may not be done spending money yet.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said Friday, Dec. 16, that WR Arrelious Benn (concussion) has responded well to requisite tests players must pass before they are cleared to return. However, the team has decided to hold him out of the Week 15 game.
