Mets | Travis d'Arnaud to remain in boot

Fri, 17 May 2013 15:27:45 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) will remain in a walking boot for another two weeks and won't be allowed to bear weight on his foot. d'Arnaud had a checkup with a doctor Friday, May 17, after he fractured his left foot four weeks ago.

Fantasy Tip: This is disappointing news for those hoping that d'Arnaud would have already been up in the bigs by now. The success of John Buck and another tough break for d'Arnaud has tempered those expectations, though. Don't expect the catching prospect to make his Mets debut until later this year now.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud to be re-examined

Thu, 09 May 2013 12:23:23 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) will be re-examined in New York May 17, and he might be able to start rehabbing in Florida after that. d'Arnaud is still in a walking boot. "A lot of resting. Just stay off my foot and trying to keep it elevated so it can heal back to 100 percent," d'Arnaud. "I'm in a boot that I've been wearing it all the time, except when I sleep."

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud is the club's top catching prospect after he was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey trade. His foot injury is serious and will set him back from reaching the majors until later this summer, if at all. John Buck is still swinging the bat well, so there is no rush to bring d'Arnaud up.

Mets | Still considering Giancarlo Stanton?

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 12:57:59 -0700

The New York Mets had been rumored to be interested in trading for Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton, but the Marlins would likely ask for SP Zack Wheeler and C Travis d'Arnaud in return. "I wouldn't give one of those guys for Stanton," said one National League executive. "The catcher has a chance to be a 10-year All-Star. The other guy is one of the best pitching prospects in the game."

Mets | No surgery for Travis d'Arnaud

Fri, 19 Apr 2013 12:53:59 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) will not need surgery on his broken foot, but he will be out roughly eight weeks.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud would have been out much longer had he needed surgery, so consider that a win for those of you who own him in keeper leagues. John Buck has been playing well to staart the year, and he should hold the starting catcher gig in New York for a good chunk of the season now.

Mets | More on Travis d'Arnaud

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 16:52:11 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) is likely to need four to eight weeks before he can resume baseball activities, but he'll be evaluated by doctors before a more firm timetable is set.

Fantasy Tip: This is troubling news for a catching prospect that was expected to be up with the Mets before the summer. Now, that timetable will be pushed back. He's still worth hanging onto in keeper leagues if he can heal up quickly and come up later this season.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud breaks foot

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 11:14:47 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) fractured a bone in his left foot Wednesday, April 17, while playing for Triple-A Las Vegas. He will be examined Friday, April 19, in New York, after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the first metatarsal bone in his foot. d'Arnaud is in a walking boot, and the team is unsure if he'll need surgery. There was sense around the organization that they were going to recall the catching prospect soon.

Fantasy Tip: This is troubling news for d'Arnaud owners in keeper leagues. The catching prospect was close to surfacing in the majors last year with the Toronto Blue Jays, too, before suffering a major knee injury. John Buck is off to hot start, so he'll continue to be the main catcher at the big league level, and d'Arnaud's latest injury just bought him much more time.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud to open in minors

Mon, 18 Mar 2013 12:30:14 -0700

The New York Mets still plan to have C Travis d'Arnaud start the year in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud is clearly the team's long-term solution at catcher, and he's gained invaluable experience learning the pitchers in camp this spring. Expect him to be called up around midseason.

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud's days in spring camp may be numbered, as the team must send out prospects on the 40-man roster by Friday, March 15, or they will earn major league service time and pay.
