Mets | Travis d'Arnaud making progress

Wed, 25 May 2016 09:16:15 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) worked out Wednesday, May 25, and is throwing with no issues. He'll start more rigorous workouts Thursday, May 26, according to assistant general manager John Ricco.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud was a breakout candidate at catcher this year, so he's been a big disappointment to his owners with a .196 average and just one RBI in 46 at-bats before his injury. Because of his offensive upside at a weak position, he needs to be stashed in the majority of leagues. Kevin Plawecki has been seeing the majority of starts behind the plate but is weak replacement with a .186/.286/.267 slash line.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud continues throwing

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:11:10 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) has resumed throwing in California and will head to Florida later this week to increase his baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud could go on a rehab assignment shortly after that, but no timetable has been set for his return. He's been an extreme injury risk in his young career and has developed a reputation as a slow healer, so you'll need to remain patient wherever you own him. He can put up top-tier offensive numbers at his position when healthy.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud building shoulder strength

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:32:33 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) has begun doing exercises to build strength and regain a full range of motion in his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: There is currently no timetable for d'Arnaud's return, so don't expect him any time soon. And in shallow mixed leagues, it isn't out of the question to replace him. Kevin Plawecki has a .232/.329/.333 slash line through 79 plate appearances and has been seeing the majority of starts behind the dish for the Mets with d'Arnaud out. View Plawecki as a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only formats.

Mets | No timetable for Travis d'Arnaud

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:20:01 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) is working with a physical therapist/trainer in California, and the Mets don't know when he'll resume throwing, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. D'Arnaud is dealing with a right rotator cuff strain. Alderson said d'Arnaud has passed his initial rehab phase and the pain in the shoulder is gone. The Mets don't know when he'll resume throwing.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud is known as a slow healer, and his injury history is significant. In shallow mixed leagues, it's not out of the question to drop him at this point. Everywhere else you'll have to stay patient and stash the catcher that can contribute significant offensive numbers at his position when healthy. Kevin Plawecki will continue serving as the primary catcher, but he's only an option in deep NL-only and two-catcher leagues.

Mets | No change in status for Travis d'Arnaud

Mon, 09 May 2016 15:59:07 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) saw an orthopedist and received a platelet rich plasma injection Monday, May 9, but there is no change in his diagnosis, and d'Arnaud will continue to rest indefinitely.

Fantasy Tip: With d'Arnaud out of the lineup, Kevin Plawecki has been seeing plenty of work but is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only formats. Plawecki owns a .227/.358/.295 slash line with just four runs and two RBI through 16 games for the season. Continue to stash d'Arnaud in all seasonal leagues, but don't expect any production from him anytime soon.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud suffers setback

Sat, 07 May 2016 15:31:33 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) felt discomfort trying to throw a baseball Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Kevin Plawecki has a longer window now, but he's hitting just .189. He's not much of an option outside of the deepest leagues. Keep d'Arnaud on the DL.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud hitting, not throwing

Thu, 05 May 2016 15:57:17 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) is hitting in Florida but has yet to throw since he went on the disabled list nine days ago with a rotator cuff strain, according to manager Terry Collins. D'Arnaud's absence will last longer than his 15-day DL stint.

Fantasy Tip: D'arnaud has been a big disappointment for those expecting a breakout season in 2016. Injuries continue to hold the young catcher back, and you'll need to be patient with him in deeper leagues. There's really no reason to hang on in shallow mixed leagues at this time. Kevin Plawecki should continue to see most of the starts at catcher, but he's only attractive in deep two-catcher setups.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud not doing much

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:17:05 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) hasn't done any physical activity a week after going on the 15-day disabled list, and the Mets have no timetable on when he will begin throwing. It's highly unlikely that d'Arnaud comes off the DL when he's eligible May 11. C Kevin Plawecki is doing the majority of catching with d'Arnaud sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud has developed a reputation for being injury prone and a slow healer early in his career. That's not good for a catcher. Because of his slow start (.196/.288/.261) to boot, those in shallow leagues without space to stash him will need to look for other options. Plawecki isn't a bad second-catching option in two-backstop leagues for the time being.

Mets | Hope Travis d'Arnaud avoids surgery

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 20:13:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, the New York Mets are hopeful C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) is nursing a strained right rotator cuff, and the team is hopeful he can heal quickly without surgery.

Fantasy Tip: With d'Arnaud on the shelf it is Kevin Plawecki and Rene Rivera serving as the top two backstops, with Plawecki expected to handle a lion's share of the starts behind the dish.

Mets | Travis d'Arnaud placed on DL

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 11:28:45 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain Tuesday, April 26, and the Mets purchased the contract of C Rene Rivera from Class AAA Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: A slow start (.196/.288/.261 with no home runs) just got even worse for d'Arnaud. This could be an injury that could require surgery and keep him out for an extended timeline, too, so stay tuned for updates. If you don't have the room to stash in shallow mixed leagues, you may be forced to drop him. Kevin Plawecki should see the majority of starts behind the plate but is nothing more than a second catcher in two-backstop leagues.
