The New York Mets activated C John Buck from the paternity list Tuesday, Aug. 20. The team also signed free-agent Ps Mitch Talbot (Marlins) and Daryl Thompson (Twins) to minor league deals.
Fantasy Tip: Buck returns to a different setup behind him at catcher. Travis d'Arnaud is now in the majors for good, so the two will split time for the rest of the season. d'Arnaud is the catcher of the future, so they'll try to get a good look at him. Buck is no longer a must-own in single-catcher leagues.

The New York Mets plan to keep C Travis d'Arnaud on their active roster and give him significant playing time even when C John Buck is activated from the paternity leave list.

New York Mets C John Buck is with the team as his wife awaits the couple's third child. He will likely land on the paternity list soon. C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) has been moved from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Las Vegas and could make a cameo with the Mets when Buck departs. Manager Terry Collins said he would use d'Arnaud with Buck gone.
Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud's presence on the major league roster is expected to be very brief. When Buck returns, expect him to be sent back to the minors. d'Arnaud could be a September call-up, but it's doubtful he'll offer you much fantasy value.

New York Mets C John Buck could be put on the three-day paternity list later this week with his wife expecting the couple's child Thursday, Aug. 1. Manager Terry Collins said C Travis d'Arnaud could be called up if Buck has to leave the team. However, if they don't want to rush d'Arnaud, Cs Francisco Pena and Juan Centeno are other options. If d'Arnaud is brought up, he'd only be around until Buck returns, though. D'Arnaud has played six Gulf Coast League games since returning from a broken foot.
Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud should only be owned in deep NL-only leagues or keeper formats. His foot injury basically robbed him of any fantasy baseball value this season. Next year is a different story, though, as he should make his way onto mixed league rosters as the team's primary catcher.
