Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (foot) said an MRI exam on his sprained foot has shown no ligament tears, and he also ruled out a Lisfranc injury. Peterson will undergo a CT scan but expects to play in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fantasy Tip: The fact remains that AD is dealing with a sprained foot, which will be tough to come back from for Week 15. Even if he winds up playing against the Eagles, he'll likely be limited. Toby Gerhart should be added everywhere as insurance or in the event that Peterson is out this weekend.
Mon, 09 Dec 2013 10:40:41 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said RB Toby Gerhart (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Week 14 game.

Sun, 08 Dec 2013 14:34:33 -0800
Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart carried 15 times for 89 yards and a 41-yard touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens, coming on for an injured RB Adrian Peterson (ankle).
Fantasy Tip: Gerhart was highly touted out of Stanford, but he has been in the shadow of Peterson for his entire career. If Peterson is forced to miss time, Gerhart could be a sneaky fantasy player in the coming weeks. But there is no indication that Peterson's injury will keep him out.

Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart was expected to split time with RB Adrian Peterson early on, but he ended up in the same backup role he's always been. Gerhart is entering a contract year, and he has minimal mileage on his body. He figures to return as Peterson's primary backup unless the team can find value in the trade market.
Mon, 24 Sep 2012 13:54:36 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team has some concern over RB Toby Gerhart's three fumbles in Week 3 because they do not want him to lose confidence. "We're going to need Toby to make big plays for us throughout this season and we've got to keep his confidence up," Frazier said. "We know he's capable of holding onto the football. He usually does a good job with that. We don't want him to go in the tank and get down."
Sun, 09 Sep 2012 17:44:35 -0700
Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart had six carries for 18 yards in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he added one reception for eight yards.
Fantasy Tip: Gerhart was expected to split carries with RB Adrian Peterson (knee), but Peterson ended up galloping 17 times for 84 yards and two scores despite suffering torn knee ligaments in Week 17 last season. It appears Gerhart should only be used as a 'flex' fantasy option in the deepest of leagues unless Peterson suffers some sort of setback.

Mon, 06 Aug 2012 20:23:44 -0700
There are no plans by the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff to let RB Toby Gerhart shoulder a heavier load in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 10, against the San Francisco 49ers. Mon, 23 Jul 2012 05:50:15 -0700
Minnesota Vikings RB Toby Gerhart said he thinks RB Adrian Peterson (knee) will be ready to play in Week 1. "I think (Adrian Peterson) will (play in the opener)," Gerhart said. "You can never be surprised with Adrian. The way he comes to work every day, the way he pushes himself - he was flying around, straight-line speed, moving out there, racing Percy up the hill, doing conditioning stuff ... I haven't seen him in a couple weeks now, but I'm sure he's continued to make leaps and bounds in progress, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's ready. You can never count Adrian out."

"I try to do that every year. But this year it's a little more prevalent. I'm doing everything I can to be here, work hard, work with the new guys we have coming in. I'm pushing everybody and getting pushed by other guys. Preparing to be the guy, depending on whether Adrian comes back."

It is unclear whether the Minnesota Vikings will dress only two halfbacks, RBs Toby Gerhart and Lorenzo Booker, for the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. They might promote RB Caleb King from the practice squad. "You never know when it's your time," King said Friday, Dec. 30. "Luckily, I did follow (the veterans). I know the playbook, so if they throw me in, I'm going to be ready." RB Jordan Todman was signed this week off the practice squad of the San Diego Chargers, but it's unlikely he'll be up to speed with the team's playbook to contribute.
Tue, 27 Dec 2011 06:10:12 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team will remain committed to the run game despite the absence of RB Adrian Peterson (knee). Even if Peterson misses time at the start of the 2012 season, the Vikings will not alter their offense with RB Toby Gerhart in the mix. "One of things about Adrian's absence earlier in the season, we had a chance to get Toby some extended snaps and we really haven't altered the offense by any means," Frazier said. "Toby has done a very good job in Adrian's absence. Did a great job of stepping in and performing and rushing for over 100 yards. So we really haven't had to alter things. We really don't plan to. We look forward to eventually getting Adrian back on the field, but we don't think we have to really alter the offense."
Sat, 24 Dec 2011 15:26:18 -0800
Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) likely suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as other ligament damage in Week 16.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners whose leagues run through Week 17 should make alternative plans immediately. Dynasty league managers should brace for the worst by preparing to be without Peterson for the beginning of the 2012 season as well. Toby Gerhart filled in more than adequately while AD was unavailable because of a high ankle sprain; if he's available to owners in either situation, they should do what they can to secure his services. If Peterson did tear his ACL but makes a strong recovery and isn't expected to miss much, if any, time in 2012, he won't be the explosive back fans are accustomed to seeing. It's hard to envision AD being worthy of a first-round pick in redraft leagues next season. The results of the MRI should be known on Christmas Day, if not earlier.

But we look to do a much better job of that over the next eight games. Toby was essential in that drive we had in the third quarter in Charlotte. When he got in the game, the ball started to move." RB Adrian Peterson is still expected to see the bulk of the work in Minnesota, though.
